1. Here she is
2.
ouch, was that painful to find out?
I half expected it and unfortunately what I have is the closest possible option of what is essentially a reissue of a bass that never existed, a 5 string pre eb. I went for the john east as it was developed to sound as close s possible to a real pre eb circuit too, it basically has more bottom and more top if required. The bass is stunning though and plays great too
3. I had a trans green SB320 with the gold hardware, sold it ages ago for £250, still one of the best fit and finishes I have seen
4. Looks like I have nothing to add here
5. They should have put a label on the streamliners telling people to turn the bass down much lower than they would on any other amp, it would have saved some early reviews being wrongly negative about the tone imo!
6.
Who uses theory to create music? Music should be a spur of the moment, I just thought of a great idea in my head thing. Theory lacks soul and music really needs that to make it special.
And we are back to the beginning about not knowing you are using it doesn't mean you aren't using it.
7. I'd have Leo fender brought back from the dead and get him to design and build a pre eb 5 string stingray but with a six bolt neck and a wheel of fortune truss rod!
8. Also Lozz there are loads of bc members running a neox2x12T cab not all with genz amps either, probably one of the nearest cabs to a barefaced 2x12 and even alex rates them as a good cab design!
9.
Yes, considering the way their amp-owners rave about the amps I`m surprised there aren`t more reviews/user opinions on Genz cabs.
I think plenty of folk using genz amps have genz cabs just to the focus range, they could have done with a focus range head to make a cheaper rig that should have been good. Most people with a top of the range head are going to be using the neox range like me or people with loads of dosh will have the uber cabs. Maybe the focus cabs never had a suitably priced head to make them sell as well as other brands?
10.
This is an interesting answer because I think it's what's true in most situations. I have three thoughts on this: 1. in this discussion there is massive incidence of the blind leading the blind. 2. If you are playing things from your own musical imagination there is theory that expresses it in a written communicable form Whether you like it or not fellas. Just because you are not thinking in theoretical terms (which is perfectly fine) does not mean there is no theory at play. 3. People that are both musical and theoretically able will be at a bassline in around a 100th of the time that a noodler will take which is what makes me able to go on a gig or recording session with people I've never met and read chord charts to come up with a bass part on the spot. I did this session with one rehearsal and chord charts so when I recorded the song it was the 2nd or 3rd time I played it: http://basschat.co.u...48#entry2249848
Bang on as ever Jake.
11. I need to google cadence.....
12.
Could you translate that into English, please?
Lets put it this way, I'm pretty certain my basslines would improve more if I knuckled down to some theory than if I forgot what little theory I have already.
13. They sound like a bargain to me, I can't understand why the focus cabs haven't taken off like crazy, and now Genz are no more
14. I hung on to my beloved Ray fours for a while, but they are all gone now
15. Pre eb are my personal favourite, we compared a real pre eb a few weeks ago to my classic 5 which also has a john east preamp, the pre eb blew mine away.
16. This always comes down to the people who think they don't theory not realising they are using it imo. Almost as if those who don't know it have some extra notes the theory guys can't play because its wrong in ome way or another, they don't.
17.
I'm tempted to make another paltry comment, but I wont.
Chicken!
18.
Jamey Aebersold backing tracks... all 106 books... Learn them... you'll be fine...
Off to google those now.....
19.
If you stomach travelling to Birmingham there's bound to be someone there who could teach you, possibly a jazz student at the Conservatoire (for jazz) or a CBSO player (for classical). The very fine jazz trumpeter Percy Pursglove is also a superb bass player and teaches at the Conservatoire. He lives in Nuneaton but you might be able to see him in Birmingham. Also do you have jazz gigs that happen near your locale? If so, try and get in contact with the musicians and see if they can help you out.
Looks like I need to do a bit of digging then, thanks.
20.
Whatever it is, it's fowl.
Trust you to get all pigeon chested about it, ducks for cover.....
21. Neither are correct, that was my first point really, what is good for the goose might not be good for the gander after all, maybe your a goose maybe I am a gander? I have no idea what I am on about now either
22. There are a few people on here who have lost gigs due to five string basses, lots of pro's have told me they keep a burst and tort P bass just for those gigs.
23.
... and... "You need to get a five-string."
And the flip side then, "proper bass players only play four strings, everything can be done on a four with a D tuner etc etc etc" it can't and I personally should have gone to five years earlier.
