1.
I'm a poor enough player that I'd assume it was me before I assumed it was the bass, upright or not.
Likewise but I know its not my bass as I have heard the noises Jake Newman and Geoff Chamlers can get out of it, ah must be me after all
2.
When you've just got off a double bass, the wide P bass neck and high action seem neither wide nor high.
Since taking up DB I agree but then in a way you can say the same about "unplayable" uprights or cant play arco on particular strings, cant slap on particular strings. Tools for the job just the same I suppose.
3.
That makes sense, but do the regulations require that sockets/conduit containing three phases have such warning labels? After all, it's not exactly 'normal use' for someone to open up a socket so if the normal users of such sockets cannot be exposed to three phases by simply plugging in a standard plug why bother with warning labels at all. After all, by definition, it's only qualified electricians who can be expected to properly understand what such labels actually mean in practice.
To the letter then it should if it contains 400v or has more than one supply inside, the 400v sticker is just confusing for joe public and doesn't really explain fully to any electricians working on the system, on the other hand you would not have room for an essay on a socket outlet, damned if you do damned if you dont? The normal label if it was because the sockets nearby where on a second phase would be "Pottential 400v between socket outlets in this area" probably with a symbol of two arrows pointing at each other > < or one on each pointing at the other socket. In large installations the electrical engineer will insist on which phase each ring main is on to avoid that yet keep the load for the entire building divided equally. Of course a month later the jukebox engineer turns up and drills a hole through the wall to get at the nearest socket and you are back where you started!
4. I've never played a good five string jazz until the one I've just bought, anything pre 2008 gets a bad press from what I have seen and then again more praise after 2012, four strings are less trouble but most fender fives I have tried were naff so I'm glad I've bagged me a nice one with a tight B
5.
No, there's more of you than that, with an average of 3.7 puns each, which I've rounded up to 4. You all get a pat on the head.
Nothing gets past ur ize does it?
6. I suppose we have given it a good leathering?
7. I was expecting a stampede of puns but it looks like just the two of us horsing around with this?
8. If you are going out take a coat...its friesian out there!
9. Well I can see you are an expert in that field!
10. Oh I see like that is it? Dont mince your words.....
11. Lol, you got it! The 2 small ones were ok, just the massive one in the middle making a hash of things
12. Flea will be able to order a pair of new ones ready for the next tour too, he must have worn those ones out by now
13. Trans finish or a maple top is about as fancy as I go but I will take a solid sparkle finish Funk5 all day long
14. I sold Martthebass a Squier P bass for about £60, out of the box is was beyond my needs ability wise
15. I have seen some stuff like Richard Bona and Yanek Gwizdala etc that in fairness although they would rock with a Squier P no doubt the loop station tapping stuff would not be possible on any of my basses without some fret dressing and even then the necks might not be stable enough to stay at such a low action on a tour basis, granted this is not your everyday pub gig issue
16. No but then that contradicts the idea people are buying this stuff with the hope of it being the answer to their prayers of being able to play doesn't it? The people buying it must have already got their sh*t together on cheaper gear and are not on this quest we always hear about but in fact just like high end gear and have the skills to be able to play it properly. As I've said before in other threads one persons high end gear is anothers work horse inexpensive run of the mill stuff. I take no notice of endorsed products, watching someone rock out with an Ashdown rig as you sit smugly saying if its good enough for so and so it's good enough for me is all well and good until you take into account the pre EQ Di and two grands worth of in ear monitors, stage dressing/advertising at its finest
17. Every single person I know with top end custom stuff can also play really well, I've not one person with a £3k plus bass that cant play.
18. Are you stilt on about this bass?
19. I disagree I'd put a hefty steak on it sounding more like butter than cheese?
20. I would say the stickers are there not because of potential between sockets in that area as any property with 3 phase has that potential especially once an extension lead is introduced but more likely that the wiring for another ring main on another phase is contained within the socket box. Most industrial installations are done that way rather than running three conduits all the wires run down one so when you remove a socket face you are exposed to all three phases.
21. I wonder if you left it a few years under the bed then when you returned to it would it "play like butter"?
22. I can see this thread is going to become udderly riddiculous?
23. I thought the rear knob was for country and the front one was for western?
24. Behringer BDi 21, some Dunlop 1.00mm picks and a bag of angle jack patch leads that I was getting desparate for on its way from Thomann, gone from no pedals to loads of bloody pedals now
