1. EBS Freak modelling some contenders... First to try was this USA Standard V, action was way too high but generally sounded good, he offered to lower the action while we went to guitar guitar.... Next was this USA deluxe, nice neck and finish etc but not very good passive at all and the preamp left me cold tbh.. Same in black/maple, much nicer sounding bass for some reason but not keen on the looks Last up was the Lakland DJ5, it had a wire trapped under the control plate other than that it was brilliant! This very nearly came home and made me decide I wanted a passive bass rather than any whistles and bells, So we went back to PMT, he had done the neck as promised, sounded and played great, nice B string, burpy passive Jazz so I did a deal including new strings and dunlop straplocks took it home sorted a loose knob, restrung it, fitted the straplocks, got a gig at 7pm! (they have lost the cheap case so he gave me Deluxe one which I'm not going to use hence the hiscox in the pic, no allen keys though so I need to find out what they are as I dont have a special neck one and my massive set doesn't have one for the intonation screws?)
2. The shopping day has arrived! Updates to follow
3. I love my Stagg but for a decent stage the DB wins everytime imo

5. The band, black and white 20's themed venue so I took my black and white Stingray complete with skeleton hanging off it, another skeleton hanging off the DB bridge, lol Burlesque dancer These guys were up all night, he/she must have been sweating his/her nuts/tits off in that frankenstein costume!
6. Just packing up from mine, not bad all told and we had a dark themed burlesque dancer, pics to follow once I have wifi
7. Excellent news, I still think good strings and the adjustable bridge is a good idea for us noobs and to keep alteration costs down should it need a tweak either way. My strings took a week to settle but once they do I understand spiros are meant to be very stable? These new basses take a few years to mature to from what others have said. Enjoy Im gigging mine tonight at a Dark Burlesque show, pics to follow in the db porn thread tomorrow hopefully
8. The best If you look through the double bass bash thread you will find some info on them and a uk builder of them, if you though the TKS custom coatings were far out you haven't seen Daves Marvel Comics ones!
9. They are really nice basses that's probably why
10. Hmm badass on my double bass......
11. The tailgut and the endpin block on a DB would be a better comparison to an electric bass bridge imo, different end pins make a big difference and I presume the block of wood at the base would make a big difference to depending on its size and or density.
12. Good ones
13. Anyone who has tried my upright with a mag pickup has agreed that there is more to it than metal strings moving around, so the sound of the whole instrument is to some extent important. As for the OP the answer is no not much.
14. I don't think that is how resonance works, to add sustain you want the whole bass, neck, body and strings to vibrate as a single piece, the solid bridge anchored well lets the strings and body become one rather than the bbot acting like a sponge bouncing the strings vibrations around and jumbling them up, less extreme but the same thing as stuffing a sponge behind the strings.
15. I had a badass on my Jazz, I'm sure it added some sustain which as others have said suits a Jazz more than a punchy P bass, more importantly I just found it better for setting up and the look of it. I dont like the way the saddles on a bbot can move laterally either.
16. Hhmm its ok but im not sure, reminds me of the Woolworths Audition guitars a bit.
17. Its tricky, I like my eub and its great for live gigs especially if room is tight either at the venue or regarding transport but the DB is just ace and looks great on stage, check out the db eub porn pics for proof!
18. Good pics guys and yes the correct hat is important, dont rush it
19. Now I dont mind a plain board, a Bass Collection SB320 was my main bass for a long time.
20.
Went into the Bass Gallery earlier in the week and tried out an Overwater and a Sei. Both beautiful to look at and play. The Overwater was probably the better spec but I just fell in love with the Sei. That ebony board and the neck are just a joy to play. Been thinking about it all week. Just called up Martin and pulled the trigger.... I'm not sure the taste police will approve - CAR with gold hardware and light up red led fret markers. I'd have preferred something just a little more understated but then it's not as if there are hundreds of these to choose from.... Life's too short not to have that bass in my life.
That will be the bass that was discussed early on in this thread, if it had been blue with chrome hardware I'd have bought that unseen!
21.
Hi Pete, Have you seen this Sandberg at Bass Direct... http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Sandberg_TT5_Creme.html I'm seriously tempted but my ideal spec is black with a tort or parchment scratchplate and Sandberg Alnico 5s. For £600 less I could go for this one though!! I'm currently playing a Shuker Jazz with Aaron Armstrong Dual Coils (check the spec here) and it sound amazing...I could say that I don't really need another but to get that vintage vibe, I'd really like a Sandberg. Fenders JBs haven't really done it for me...not with frets anyway. Good luck with your search
That does tick the boxes doesn't it? Good spot, on my list it goes
22.
I don't know if it's been mentioned earlier, but there's a Skjold J currently for sale here on BC which might suit you http://basschat.co.uk/topic/246269-skjold-lions-pride-5-string-super-jazz-l1525/page__p__2591963__hl__skjold__fromsearch__1#entry2591963 maybe a deal can be done.
It's a bit too coffee table for me
23.
Went to guitarguitar Birmingham yesterday and tried Lakland DJ5 in grey. If it was in white I would've gone home with it!
Really...that's interesting because I like the colour of it so if it plays good we might have a winner! Nobody is allowed in that store now until next week!
24.
Reminds me of an old issue of Bass Player where they did a feature on Testament's bass player and obviously went over the kit he was using, his bass was a Fender jazz of some variety, a Geddy Lee I think. Two pages later there's a full page add of him and Dave Ellefson advertising Peavey basses
Daft ain't it yet people will buy them because of the signature so who are we to complain? If I really put the hours in and buy an Adam Clayton signature do you think I will play like him this time next year? 'Coz I f***ing hope not
