I've got weichs and as a beginner I dont find them that 'weich' I'm sure they will do the job

I've got a Yita, its nice but it does have a leather grip, mother of pearl inlay. No idea what the hair is made of?

[/quote] This is spot on imo, I'm not looking at the specific models much because I want to try before I buy so it will be dependant on a few shop's stock, at the same time top of my list is a Deluxe USA Jazz V £1550 ish but I'd have no problem in walking out with a Squier version if I felt it was really good, and people say they are.

I'm not too keen on them visually

[/quote] I did the same £145 on a set of strings, messed the silks up trying them, I was very very grumpy! Took the anchor block off, drilled the holes out deeper leaving about 10mm of wood left from the string ball, unwound a tiny bit of silk from the E string peg end then used a clear nail varnish to tidy up the silks beyond the nut. Sorted

The Sandberg does look like an obvious choice doesn't it but I'm not sure.

I've started a jazz V thread to save derailing this one, I'm not sure me buying one USA deluxe is going to help with the 250 million debt but you know, watch the Pennies and all that!

Thats at the top end of my flahyness but actually I do like that, thanks I shall look at more of his basses, I wrongly presumed them to be mainly 8 string single cuts tbh.
