  1. There's nothing wrong with being sexy
  2. PICNIC TIME FOR TEDDY BEARS (terrifying when played on a decades-old ICV megaphone)
  3. When Tony Levin was taken ill on the ABWH/Yes tour, Jeff Berlin stepped in with less than a weeks notice and took his place, playing a two and half set of Yes and related music. From interview at http://www.nfte.org/interviews/berlin_interview.html "I wrote them [the charts] out on Sunday and Monday night. Wednesday we were rehearsing and Thursday I was on the gig. Now if I didn't have the background and experience I probably would never have been able to do a Yes show in two days" Any advance on two days?
  4. Enjoy your JMJ! I have a Daphne with matching strap and Grolsh bottle washers, see photo on the Short Scale Appreciation thread (strap and locks may not be visible) What I like (as well as all everyone has said above) is the surprisingly wide range of tones available throughout the range of the tone control. It's my main bass at the moment.
  5. I just bought Paddy's Source Audio C4 pedal. Great item, and posted in super quick style. Recommend!
  6. not my thing, but I quite like it, especially towards the end
  7. curses, I'm away that weekend. Hope to make a SEBB one of these days
  8. and also I have learned today that tiktok embeds nicely on basschat. who knew!
  9. Luckily someone has a search engine. It's on tiktok as well! Good job I'm totally down with the young folk.
  10. I always don't** sing when playing bass ** can't
  11. I was quite surprised when I heard the same thing here (in the last thirty seconds or so)
  12. Late to the party! Happy JMJ Mustang owner here, photo here from recent jam night which I've had to snip closely as there was some political commentary behind me (surprisingly it's not "I Love Boris"), and the guy with the camera had trouble not getting someone's pointy headstock in the way of me. Also worth pointing out that the bassist in the house band plays a short scale Wilcock. He's often generous to ask if I fancy a go, but I'm worried I'll bosh it on something 😧 that's probably it behind me.
  13. Somewhere I have a list for this kind of thing. Of course I can't find it now 🤔 But well done for specifiying arrival/reflection/departure, I'd never considered it like that. But anyway, off the top of my head and subject to change: Arrival - Driver, Phish Reflection - something from Brian Eno & Friends "Apollo", probably An Ending (Ascent) or Deep Blue Day Departure - Days, probably the Kirsty MacColl version for those unfamiliar with Phish, here's Driver "I'll tell you about the driver who lives inside my head Starts me up and stops me and puts me into bed He opens up my mouth when it's time for me to talk Fires up my legs when he wants me to walk Keeps my eyes open most of the day Adds to my memory the things that people say When he makes decisions I don't have to wait But sometimes it seems he's got to much on his plate Like this morning when I woke up and he dressed me in this shirt That looks a little ragged where he dragged me through the dirt I'm moving through this life and I'm thinking about the next And hoping when I get there I'll be better dressed"
  14. Bit confused Dave - did you used to own the white 4/8-string as well? (I can't remember what the original ebay link above pointed to). Which is it you're looking for? Have you asked in the Shergold forum? It's a small but knowledgable and friendly bunch. https://www.shergold.co.uk/forum/
  15. tin-foil hat? otherwise I'm delighted to hear that there's a functioning rehearsal room in SE London. Can you share details please?
  16. I wonder if it'll be a "new retail experience" (ie no actual stock, lots of distractions) in the new thing by Denmark St
  17. 100% this. I have a massive box of effects at home and I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm not going to get massively better at any technique after 300 years of playing, so I'm venturing in other directions for expanding my interest and enthusiasm for my instrument. Obviously I recognise that the audience for this is realistically one, ie me Meanwhile at jam night I'm happy to knock out Autumn Leaves for the millionth time and get a polite round of applause for a nice plummy walking line. Sometimes the band even nod their approval, or maybe they're just falling asleep.
  18. My amp has a pedal with four switches. Please advise
  19. tea chest, string, fingers crossed for quiet audience
  20. Are these lyrics from the new Tool album?
