1.
If you put the VT bass in the fx loop of the amp, rather than just plugging it direct into the FX return, the master volume will still be active, but mostly, this is about going bass to Sansamp to FX return, so the Sansamp knobs replace the bass amps ones.
I see your point, i didn't know some amps did that. The ones i had tried hooking directly to the FX return had a working volume pot. I've read your link, it's very useful. Thanks
2. Is this the deluxe? Your link shows Bass Direct selling them at £195 plus £5 post to UK! I would love one for my '77 modded VM but it's a bit pricey for me ATM... Good luck with the sale!
3. I forgot to mention, my sound doesn't have valve colour or distortion at that setting, maybe just a tiny little bit of extra bite!
4. I use mine with gain at 12 o'clock and (preamp) volume between 3 o'clock and max. I also use a active bass and a pedalboard with a bit of gain boost and never saw the lim LED on! Maybe you're digging too much on your bass (i'm a light-hand player) or have the pickups too close to the strings! Try turning the volume of the bass a bit down. I play with a single 12"er and never got the master volume passed 11 - 12 o'clock.
5.
Some master volumes are defeated, I think phase inverter master volumes (Marshalls?) won't be, but those are a bit specialist.
I don't understand! Every amp i know has it's Master Volume in the end of the signal path just before it enters the power amp section (hope i'm not talking sh***) and the FX Loop comes before that knob so it won't be able to afect it! On the other side if it would indeed defeat the Master Volume if we were using simple stompboxes how would we balance the amp's volume??? I know i can control the volume of every amp i've owned with FX units connected on the loop! Or am i generating a big confusion here and the truth is that what you (and they) are calling Master Volume i usualy call Gain?!! For me Master Volume is the volume of the power amp and i refer to the pre-amp's volume as Gain!!! Cheers
6.
This is a great question, I have recently acquired a strange coloured 1997 American Deluxe and I'm struggling to get a satisfactory Jazz Bass tone. On my Deluxe the controls are a bit odd and I'm still playing around. They go: Vol: Pan: Bass/treble stack: Mid It was 100% on both pups (pan control on the centre notch), boosting bass 80% and treble and mid rolled off ~30% for a band playing Linkin Park type rock. Works for that band but not really what I'm after sound-wise until I went to cutting front pup by ~50% and the Jazz Bass sound was beginning to be revealed. The tone variations are very powerful and its going to take me a while (all suggestions welcome!) I'm surprised that almost everyone plays with so much on the neck pup. Has anyone also found the amazing difference in sound playing off the two pups? Moving my hand from the front to back pickup is like changing guitar.
Yep! I play betwen te bridge pickup and the bridge itself! I gained that habit after having a Stingray, much more defined sound and more atack! When i want to beef things up i simply move my hand to the neck pickup! I don't like thump... [takes cover...]
7. Start hunting for original Celestion drivers for that cab or get some of the new ones (mail Celestion or Peavey to ask what thwy recommend for a modern substitute). Eminence has great drivers but Trace's sound is all about Celestions IMO! And they don't desintegrate!!! I play 5-string through my Boxer15 with a 6" (or is it 8"... humm...) driver and it's still intact and pumping huge sounds (for a 15W amp)! Cheers
8.
This should help: from the manual. WITH BASS AMP: Run the 1/4” output of the SansAmp directly into the input of the power amp input, a.k.a.“effects return” (if applicable), of an amp. This will bypass the tone coloring section of the pre-amp and will defeat the amp’s master volume. NOTE: BE SURE the BASS GUITAR VOLUME is OFF --BEFORE you turn on the amp. Or, you can run the SansAmp into the front input of an amp. Be sure to keep the Level of SansAmp close to unity gain, so as not to overload the amp’s input, which could result in undesirable distortion. Tips for setting up your amp when using front input: 1. Plug into low gain channel or input. 2. Turn off Bright switch. 3. Turn presence control (if applicable) to 12 o’clock or below. 4. Set tone controls as flat as possible. PLACEMENT ORDER OF OTHER EFFECTS In most cases, your bass should be plugged directly into the SansAmp.We suggest experimenting to find the order that’s best for you.As a general guide, we recommend: Place the following effects BEFORE the SansAmp VT Bass: Wah-Wah, Pre-Amp, Compressor, Fuzz Box, Envelope Follower. Place the following in the FX loop or AFTER SansAmp VT Bass: Chorus, Delay, EQ, Pitch Shifter, Reverb. Full manual (deluxe) is: http://www.tech21nyc.com/support/manuals/s...s-VT_DLX-OM.pdf P.s I have one - its great
I think they meant " this will defeat the amp's pre-amp gain pot"... The master volume will always work regardless of where you plug in your signal... or have i been using weird amps?!! A very big mistake from their side!
9. Main setting - fingerstyle, played close to the bridge: Neck: 15% Bridge: 100% Tone: 100% Slap setting: Neck: 90% Bridge: 90% Tone: 60%
10. If we're talking about overdrive i would go for a Fulltone Bassdrive Mosfet or the new Ibanez Tubescreamer TS9B but i'm on the lookout for an incomming pedal from 3Leaf that should suit my drive needs, from the description i've got from Spencer. For Fuzz the EHX BBM is a very good and cheap pedal!
11. I have a store very near me asking for 2300€ for a 3EQ Stingray5 in honeyburst/pearloid pickguard/maple neck. And it doesn't have piezo! Find out how much that is in pounds and be amazed!!! Cheers Edit: it's just like the one in my avatar except for the PG. I bought mine from UK and it costed me about £1200 with shipping to my country.
12. I'm also waiting for your review! I realy have to get one for myself but funds are tight... Is yours with the silver grill cloth? Pics please!!!
13. I had a RBX375 and now i'm a proud owner of a TRB5PII (a complete bargain i've got here on BC). I sold my EB Musicman after getting the TRB and the P and J i own are there just to decorate my wall! That's how good Yammys are! Very versatile and very musical. I can't think of a Fender who doesn't have to get some mods to improve it's sound/sustain (Lindy Fralin, Lane Poor, Badass, hipshot,...), mine is just perfect as it is with stock pickups and electronics. A lot of people are talking about construction issues, what about Fender? Are they all that good? I don't think so! The models people are complaining are in the same league as the MIM models and everybody says they aren't worth their price! I never had a issue with any of the Yamaha gear i've owned and i haven't heard any complaints from any of my friends who use the brand. Before i got my TRB i tried Mayones, Fodera, Status, Sadowsky, Fender, Warwick, Smith, Ibanez... the Smith was the only one i can say i liked more than my Yammy, i don't think it's better build or it has a better sound though, i just liked the character on it's tone i little more but the Yamaha is less than half the price of the Smith... and the sound didn't reflected the price tag difference! Somebody also said something about they were not very original looking... once again what about fender? They have been building the exact two same models for the past 50-60 years! The RBX range isn't copying anything, the're very original such as the TRB range. The BB's pick something from fender but have you looked at Sadowsky, Allevo Coppolo, Lakland? I would recommend Yamaha to everybody looking for a good reliable bass at an afordable price with no hesitation! I'm glad there's so many bass players underating Yamaha and overating Fender and Warwick, it means i can get great basses for a bargain! Cheers
14.
Right, another price drop as I have now splashed out on the replacement and I could do with this lot gone. AH300-12, with cover and kettle lead - [s]£250[/s] £200 1153T, with cover and cable - [s]£150[/s] £120 2013H, with cover and cable - [s]£150[/s] £120 1818 - [s]£120[/s] £100 Footswitch - [s]£50[/s] £40 Head + 1153 +2013 +footswitch + cables etc [s]£550[/s] £450 Head + (1153 or 2013) + 1818 + cables etc + footswitch [s]£520[/s] £420 Remove footswitch less £40. Whole lot [s]£600. [/s] £500 I know, I am mad. I will deliver a reasonable distance for cost of fuel. Just ask!
Yes you are! What an incredible rig! Mine was exactly the same as yours downt to the footswitch but i had the combo version with the 15" so i had to buy a combo with a 2x10 and remove it's head so i could mount the GP12X and stack it on top of the "empty" 1x15. Huge sound for a complete bargain! I spent close to 1800€ with my old rig and it didn't had the covers!!! Have a free bump on me, this rig deserves it!
15. The Gotoh 201 should be a perfect fit to your Squier without the need for drilling extra holes. I've fitted one in my Maison P and it's a very good bridge witch gives a bit of extra sustain.
16. Had both, Trace is louder, very louder but GK has a sweeter, more balanced tone.
17.
This debate has come up a number of times and in part at least, I do agree with the merits of true bypass, especially in the event of a power mishap. However, I think you underrate the quality of buffered bypass; I've found with the majority of Boss pedals to suffer little if no tone loss at all and furthermore, if you are using a number of pedals without a buffer you will suffer great signal loss. Yes, the bypass on my Korg G5 is appalling, but that I've got it in a loop anyway. The bypass' on the Boss, EHX, MXR and EBS which I use are very clean and I have no issues in chaining 10/11 of them together. Doesn't the TB pop ever annoy you?
None of my pedals do the "pop" you're refering to, what some do is a rather annoying "click" everytime you step on them (the click is from the switch itself and doesn't come out in my amp but in some recordings the drum mics have captured it...) but when i find some time i'll open up my Pitchblack and see what switch he's using and try and see if it will fit in my other pedals. If it's possible i'll change all the switches, the Korg one is completely noiseless! Still GASing for the TS9 but i'm waiting for a DIY clone of the Fulltone, compact and only one channel - still cheaper than the Ibby - and will probably put my order on a pickle pie this week so it will have to wait a bit more.
18. I've just moved on from a Trace fullstack (300W head+210+115) to a GB Shuttle 9.0+GB 112 and couldn't be happier! I now carry all my gear in one trip from the car and my sound has improved a lot! I'm more into a hi-fi'ish kind of sound. In the future i'll be getting the SupertwelveT for those open air gigs but for now the single 12 is more than enough for pub gigs!
19. IMO, Bass 1 has the best tone in all categories, it's sweeter and more balanced but Bass 2 would work better in a band context. that extra bite in the high-mid range would make it stand out in the mix. They are two very distinct tones (i heard the recs through my GB rig), not that close in my impression. When i found out what they were my jaw hit the ground! Very nice playing
20. I did a lot of gigs with my Ibanez AEB-10 straped with Fender Black Nylon Tapewounds. I didn´t use a amp but had a monitor in front of me. This was with two guitars and a drum kit and i felt very comfortable! Different from a electric bass but i think it sits better in a acoustic gig. Not just the look but also the mellower, almost DB tone works great in a acoustic gig. No quality slapping though
21.
I had a problem uploading them. If you like, I can PM you the owner's email address. It's absolutely mint, though.
Thanks but funds are a bit tight for now. I'm just GASing for one to put in my modded '77 VM Jazz. I'll be in touch if it doesn't sell in the meantime. Have a bump
22.
The same friend is also selling a J-Retro preamp for £130. Two years old, but mint.
Pics don't show!
23. Please leave your feedback here. Thanks!
24. I bought a set of SDQP jazz pu's. They arrived perfectly packed (with a double package for safety) and exactly as described and in a record time. Jon is a great guy to deal with, can't recommend enough! Thanks Jon
