Have you Ever heard your song played somewhere?
Ray replied to Dread Bass's topic in General Discussion
Our stuff is played quite regularly on the Craig Charles Funk Show on BBC 6 Music. It's a great feeling to hear your own music on the radio. -
Sorry to mess with your mind but there's an SR700 for sale here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=60856&hl= Just for the record, I have no interest in this sale.

I've never used strap locks. Doubt I ever will. I'm not one for jumping around onstage!
Hi, These are "Coltrane Changes" - something that John Coltrane popularised with Giant Steps. The two progressions should be as follows: Original Fm7 / / / |Bb7 / / / |EbMaj7 / / / | Coltrane changes Bmaj7 / D7 / |Gmaj7 / Bb7 / | EbMaj7 / / / | Note that both sequeces are three bars and end V7-Imaj7. The idea is that one goes "outside" the regular changes in order to create more tension before resolving to the I chord (in this case, EbMaj7). Coltrane changes are characterised by moving key centres down in major thirds. Bar 1 starts Bmaj7, bar2 goes down a major third to Gmaj7, bar three down another major third to Ebmaj7 You can start this idea off like this: 1. Original - Fm7 / / / |Bb7 / / / |Ebmaj7 / / / | 2. Original replacing Im7 with I7 (secondary dominant) - F7 / / / |Bb7 / / / |Ebmaj7 / / / | 3. Use a tritone substitution on the F7 to get B7 - B7 / / / |Bb7 / / / |Ebmaj7 / / / | 4. Obtain the major third movement by adding Gmaj7 at the beginning of the second bar, and put the relevant V7 chord D7 just before it to create sound root-movement - B7 / D7 / |Gmaj7 / Bb7 / |Ebmaj7 / / / | 5. Finally change B7 to Bmaj7 so that the first chord in each bar implies a Imaj7 in keys descending in major thirds - Bmaj7 / D7 / |Gmaj7 / Bb7 / |Ebmaj7 / / / | If you then improvise over 5. whilst chordal players play 1. you have an introduction to playing outside the changes. As long as the ideas mean something to the progression in 5., then your improvising will sound sophisticated over 1. The general advice is play something inside (i.e. diatonic to 1.), then go outside by improvising as if the chords were 5., then come back inside to the original sequence. There's lot more about this kind of sequence in print - notably Mark Levine's Jazz Theory Book, which devotes an entire chapter to it. Hope this helps Cheers Mat
Fantastic post. Thanks.

A friend of mine has a 1976 Fender Jazz with a walnut finish, bound rosewood board and MOP block inlays. It's beautiful.

Very, VERY nice.
Due to shoddy routing on my p bass, i need to mount a pickup cover into the actual pickup cavity, and thus i need longer screws than normal. I think i need at least 25mm thread length, but the same width/head as a normal mounting/scratchplate screw. Can anyone tell me where i could find such screws, as i am having difficulty. Obviously i would prefer them to be chrome, or similar as possible. any ideas?
Hi Kev, I had the same problem with my Jazz bass because of the routing under the scratch plate on the newer models. ( ) Use Fender bridge mounting screws. They are pretty much identical to normal scratch plate screws except much longer. Worked for me!

Well impressed. Good job!

That's a bummer. As I mentioned in the other 08/09 model Fenders thread, I tried a new Jazz in PMT Southend with the same problem. I have since been looking at pictures on the internet and have found another example.
Thanks, it was my original choice, but Dawsons only had the Olympic White which I decided to go for based on price. A few people earlier on the thread have the Blizzard Pearl and rate it so it's all worked out rather well.
I don't usually like non-traditional colours on Fenders but that is quite tasty.
So then, bass ordered from Dawsons.co.uk and then I receive a call yesterday saying that for security reasons I cannot have the bass sent to a different address than the one on the debit card details because the item is more than £500. I double checked the website terms and conditions, which state that "due to customer feedback we are now able to send to different address". I offered to give them any proof that they wanted, but no, they would not budge so the order is cancelled. So have gone to Reverb and bought this £20 cheaper and free delivery, an overall saving of £30. No hassle with delivery address's and brand new stock. Marvellous!!!
Nice one! Like the colour.
The neck pockets on both my new Fenders are excellent. No problems whatsoever. They have both been looked over by a professional and said to be 'spot on'.
Glad to hear it! The one I tried out was really nice apart from the neck pocket. No better than my S1 though. Maybe I was just unlucky with the one I played. Even so, there are still some duff ones getting through.

I tried an '09 American Standard in a music shop a while ago and the neck pocket was way too big for the neck. There was a gap of 1-2mm on the treble side. Shocking. It would seem Fender's quality control is still not up to scratch.

My old Trace combo had a crackle which also turned out to be a dry joint. It would seem this is a common problem with these amps. I had it repaired for about 50 quid I think. R
So What - Miles Davis, and covered by most musicians in nearly every genre. Try it on Spotify- Candy Dulfer does a decent "funky" version.
Yeah, I was going to say So What. I think the form is 16 bars D dorian, 8 bars Eb dorian, 8 bars D dorian. Please correct me if I'm wrong though. -
Bump for tomorrows show in King Cross (Big Chill Bar) with Dave Lister on the decks!

I did a gig in Spain a few years ago and the house amp was a 100w BA115. Good points: - Nice creamy tone with my Jazz bass. Solid state but still quite warm. Never tried an SVT so can't compare. - Still sounded great when turned all the way up. No distortion. - Looks awesome. Bad points: - Very noisy DI. Unuseable in fact. The sound guy had to mic it. - A bit on the quiet side, I had to turn it up to maximum volume. - Heavy. On the whole I really liked it. I think it would be ok for small pub gigs etc. but for anything bigger I would want more power. Hope this helps!

The New Mastersounds and The Fantastics what a great night!!!
100 Club date has moved to September 12th Supporting Cookin' On 3 Burners, an Australian organ trio (Hammond, guitar & drums - no bass player!)
LOVE the new album, funktastic baby. Shame they're not coming OOP north.
Thanks a lot! We're currently working on the next one which should be even better.

I had a 3TS fretless US Fender Jazz that's been about a bit. The last owner I know of was Essential Tension I think.
