These are really lovely - very modern and hi-fi but with real presence and some excellent, useable features. In my experience, it's a versatile amp but the 'flat' sound with a modern, high-end bass (Sei, Overwater etc.) is exquisite. Build quality is extraordinary too. This is a good price (especially with the bag).

Haha - rumbled! It really is a lovely bass but I'm selling a lot of stuff and this Mustang is among the basses that I've used least in the last few months. The Beedster set-up and re-string is a thing of beauty (I'm a convert to flats again after a three decade break!) I had a quick look around for replacement covers myself but didn't come up with any (beyond buying new re-issue pickups at around $50) - I'm sure somebody will come up with some eventually - it's just a matter of patience and perserverence (not qualities with which I'm greatly endowed!)
-
I'd keep a look out for a Danelectro Longhorn (reissue) - they're extremely light (hollow-bodied and about 4-5lbs), very playable, and a 30" scale.
-
These look gorgeous but I haven't had the pleasure yet - I don't think there are too many around in Britain. I particularly like the deep cutaway for upper fret access (Windmill seem to have made this look quite elegant - this isn't the case with all builders).

This bass has been advertised on many occassions over the past months/years - it looks to be a very nice hand-built and probably quite a bargain at the current asking price. As far as I know, Dalmedo is much better known for his guitar-building (as opposed to bass-building) and I'm pretty sure that the bass is not a one-off home-build. I'd say this is well worth a punt (especially so given the inclusion of the case).
there is something special about Alembic. If i was buying a high end bass you could keep your smiths, foderas whatever
I really couldn't agree more. I'm a bit of a greedy b*****d and have an Alembic and a Fodera. The latter is very nice (very, very nice) but it doesn't come close to the Alembic. My 'bic is a Series II but it is honestly no better, nicer, more stunning etc. than this Triple O. Don't d*ck about - if you have any chance of raising £3k, just do yourself a favour and go and get this.

I only have time for the shortest comment now but will post more later. I've had the tremendous pleasure of meeting 4000, seeing this bass, and being offered a chance to play it. Forget pretty much everything you've ever seen/played before. I've been playing for well over 30 years and this bass is in the top 4 or 5 I've ever come across (and it's impossible to rank that 4 or 5 against one another). I can't begin to describe the walnut - it is the most breathtaking piece I've witnessed. Playability is simply stunning and the signature electronics are pretty close to those on a Series II. Nothing else sounds like an Alembic. Sure, these basses divide opinion: however, if you're on the 'pro' side, this is the best chance you'll have to acquire an as new, stunning, custom Alembic at an extremely good price. Trust me, I went over this bass very carefully and there really is not a mark on it (and the truss rod cover is as perfect as any I've seen). The only thing that stopped me from parting with cash on the spot was the scale length and general size of the bass - I have a fairly slight frame and the bass was simply too big for me. Yes, I know there's a recession, but it will pass. 'Deep breath, leap of faith, buy this now. You won't regret it and will be as smug and happy as f*** for a very long time to come.

I haven't used OBBM leads yet but will place an order next time I need something. I've been using Evidence Audio cables for a few years, and cables from Lava in the US (Lava build to your spec with very high quality components and extremely high quality control). I've been very impressed with everything from Lava and Evidence, though the latter are very expensive and fairly stiff (as a result of the construction of the core).

I'd be massively interested in trying one - I play short(er) scale almost exclusively. The proposed neck profile doesn't sound too attractive (I'm more accustomed to narrow spacing and slender necks): however, I'd be more than happy to give it a go - I don't find neck profile to be as much of an issue on short-scales as it is on long-scales.
-
I've tried SD hotstacks and Wizards - both good but the Wizards (custom wound) are by far my favourite (and they're relatively inexpensive). The Wizards have a big, fat, modern tone.

Cheers, Thailand in the rain has got to be better than Manchester in pretty much any weather. No probs on the cab designation - just an idle query (I suspect its a Series I - the 'II's haven't been around too long). I was thinking it would pair nicely with my existing Series I but on reflection, it'd be serious overkill. Enjoy the rest of the break!

As suggested above, the main thing you're likely to notice with medium-scale is a reduction in string tension (and the neck may feel a bit 'faster') I play mainly short and medium-scale basses (30" - 33") and find them very comfortable. I use very light gauge strings too as I'm a big fan of low tension basses. There is some criticism of shorter-scale basses on the grounds that they tend to have more limited (i) sustain, and (ii) depth and weight to both open and fretted notes. There's possibly something in this (though I don't profess to understand the physics), however, a lot depends on the individual bass - more expensive short-scale basses can have all the sustain (and more) of their long-scale counterparts. Of course, the most important consideration is how does medium-scale suit you - all you can do is try a few (I think you might be very pleasantly surprised: shorter scales - especially those with shallow necks - just feel easy, fast and more comfortable to me).

REDUCED FODERA EMPEROR BOLT ON 5 USD 5000 SHIPPED

Hi, I had the forerunner to these cabs and it was very well-constructed but monstrously heavy. I don't have a lot of technical skill and so would be tempted to build a bogey/wheeled base rather than drill into the cab. I don't know about your model, but my 4x10 had very solid and functional rubber feet that worked well on most stages. I wouldn't want to sacrifice them and install castors.

Just wow! I've been a massive fan since I bought my Series II new around '85 (I'll post a picture one day!) That myrtle top is just jaw-dropping. I thought my GAS had been cured and now this. Thanks so much.

Oops, should have looked prior to my initial post - here's a link to the 34" version - not really to my taste and I doubt the 30" will be much different in terms of styling: http://www.lakland.com/decade.htm Still, nice to see another quality manufacturer entering the short-scale market.
FYI, according to Lakland endorser Jauqo, Lakland will be introducing a short scale 30" Lakland Decade (US only, not Skyline) at January NAMM. Personally I'd like to see a Skyline 30" Decade Bass VI with vibrato.
Thanks - I'd be very interested to see this (a good attempt to address a bit of a gap in the market). Anyone seen pictures yet or a more detailed spec? Cheers, Lozbass
Hu matey Glad to hear your liking the bass, couldn't stay away from Sei, hence the new jazz, didn't you have a few other Sei's? Tony
Hi Tony, the Sei Jazz is really very nice indeed (but I can't post photos that are any better than those here!) Your new Sei/McIntyre looks stunning and I was sorely tempted when I saw it advertised. I did have a couple more Seis as you suggest - one now with a fellow BCer (Flaboyant 5 headless) and another (singlecut 6) at the Gallery - I'll post some pictures when I find them. Cheers, Lozbass

I bought the Epifani ul310 from Mitahbenn last week. A superb deal - really easy, friendly and straightforward. Mistahbenn couldn't have been more helpful. Excellent communcations throughout and Mitahbenn was even able to deliver (when convenient for me). Very highly recommended.
