1. Yikes!!! Absolutely stunning - one of my favourite colours too.
2.
Iv had a sadowsky, fender and now a zoot funkmister (in the last few months) I also know i will soon have another fender-why? I have no idea, the sadowsky and the funkmister beat a fender hands down for sound, looks and feel BUT they are not fenders. 90% of all music is played on a fender. When i play a fender, and see fender on the head stock, it to me looks very cool. When at a gig and in a break, i look at the bass on it's stand, and see fender written on the head stock, it feels and looks vey cool-why? i dont know but it does. would i record with a fender over what i have now? i don't think so but would i gig with a fender over what i have now, including sadowsky?YES - why - because its proberbly the coolest bass ever made, both the P and the J so don't feel strange to have a GAS for a fender. And in my view the 09 jazz is the best one to date, go get it!
I think there's a lot in what Greyparrot says here and I'm not the world's greatest Fender fan. I too probably wouldn't really record with a (the one) Fender I have - unless I was looking for a very specific tone - but I'd certainly use it for gigs. It just looks and feels right. I too think there's something very cool about a Fender, especially one that's clearly been around the block and has a TV logo on the headstock
3. I really need to stop looking at this
4. Absolutely lovely - both of them. The Kinal looks to be superbly built with fantastic attention to detail and some lovely features. The OLP is also very smart, and I for one think it's worth spending a few quid to improve a good quality but relatively inexpensive bass (especially a bass bought by a wife/partner!)
5.
the only reason I think they call it a 75 reissue is because they have a Bullet trust rod (but that started in 74 I think)the small logo came in in 76
Bump for a gorgeous bass and thanks James - your avatar suggests that you know a thing or two about Jazzers!
6. I've been involved in a number of overseas transactions. There's some good advice above. I would suggest that if possible, you remove the neck prior to shipping. This reduces the size of the package and thus the shipping fees (depending upon the carrier). I would insist on insurance to full value and take good photographs of the bass prior to shipping. You may also want to have the bass professionally packed - I would suggest this to the buyer and ask that they pay the fee. I think 'Mail Boxes etc.' will provide a packing service as will many other companies. If you're packing yourself, buy/source suitable and very robust materials and include these in the cost of shipping.
7. Absolutely lovely - it I could justify it etc... Don't want to stray off topic, but does anybody know why Fender uses the post '75 logo on the US RIs. My original '76 (constructed in the early months of the year with a mixture of '75 and '76 parts) has the TV logo and I've never seen an original '75 Jazz with anything other than a TV logo
8. I just love basses - classic, vintage, old, electric, weird, cheap, acoustic, expensive, exotic, modern. - I think a 'both' category would be useful in the poll (not that it would really tell us much - one player's classic is another's new and strange).
9.
MB1. .....Youd have to sell a lot of cases for that one Loz! BUMP!
I'm just 359 short
10. Hi - welcome to the site. Does the bass have any blemishes or is it in entirely 'as new' condition? Also, does it have the VTC option?
11. Les Evans, Chris McIntyre, Siggery, Prose Past builders: Shergold, Ned Callan
12.
I have particularly bad gas for a RW sunburst jazz...
Mine was satisfied just this week - photos soon (but 'don't want to hijack the thread) On topic - if you're looking to pay serious money, it may be worth looking at some of the CS Jazzers knocking about. I've seen a few recently and the build quality and finishing is generally impressive
13. Oops got interrupted during the post above...I had a bit of a surprise recently. I no longer gig at all but was pulled back in for a one-off at a colleague's wedding last week. I'd rehearsed with a Warwick 5 (neck to wide for me) and a gorgeous Sei Jazz 4. Just before the gig, feeling something was missing, I pulled out my old Jazz ('75/'76) - what a revelation, it weighs an immense amount but has incredible playability, plug and play classic - and amazing - tone, and it just looks so cool (I've even had compliments from people who don't know the difference between a guitar and a bass). There are some great Fenders out there just now - I've played quite a number (the 08/09s, Roadworn, Squier vintages etc.) - don't discount old Fenders though, there are good ones to be had with patience, determination and serious research.
14. On the vintage trail (option 3) it could be a long haul...however, if you get a really good one, it could be something you'll never look back from - some I've played from the sixties and early to mid '70s have been just stunning in terms of both playability and tone. Depending upon what you pay, of course, it's also likely (but not guaranteed) that it will appreciate in value. The market for mid to late '70s Fenders has soared in the past 3 or 4 years.
15.
Decided to leave the emo kids to it this afternoon - will go on my Dano mission next week. Had a go on a baritone guitar a while ago & loved the sound, but it's the 4 string neck I'm after. Been tempted by a Longhorn Bass I've found online, so give me a shout if you decide to sell yours - what colour is it? Cheers - B.
Hi, mine is up for grabs if you want it - I just haven't got round to advertising. It's a variant of seafoam green - it's not in bad condition at all but has a few scratches and a bit of player wear (nothing nasty or down to the wood). The only other slight problem is a missing tuner ferrule - I didn't notice until I re-strung recently so it doesn't affect performance. I'll pm with further details.
16. I too would go with Sennheiser HD25s - HD25-1-II if your budget is sufficient. They're a pro unit - sturdy and robust, comfortable and high-quality (great for listening to music as well as monitoring bass or pretty much anything else - a favourite for FoH engineers as they keep out ambient noise pretty efficiently). I tried some relatively high-end audiophile Sennheisers recently (HD650s) and wasn't massively impressed - 'probably better to go for something more robust. Some people love Grados - they're probably more 'coloured' than Sennheiser. Grado SL60s and 80s are a decent price and a good listen but not as sturdy as Sennheisers and reasonably large. As others have said, a good preamp would be beneficial but I've had acceptable results plugging headphones directly into a bass (at least, a bass with a very powerful on-board pre).
17. I can't begin to explain what that collection does to me...each and every one of those basses is special in so many ways. I am rather filled with envy!
18. ...and straight along comes an Aguilar and Epi user. If you're looking for a very clean, articulate, hifi tone with channel switching and some non-tube warmth then the Epi (ul502 or ul902) is worth a look. I just about prefer Epis to Glocks but in this sub-sector of the market it's more or less down to personal taste and feature-set rather than quality. For a highly articulate and warm tone with incredible presence, heft and power, then the Aguilar DB750 should fit the bill. I haven't tried the newly released 751 - some of the mid shelving has been adjusted on the new model but I don't have any problem with that on the 750. Either an Epi or an Aguilar would come in at or below your price (the latter only just)
19. Hi, good luck with the emo kids - Manchester is full of them on a Saturday too but they seem like a reasonably friendly bunch. If you're interested in a Dano, let me know as mine may be up for sale - I'm clearing a lot of basses and other gear at the moment (see my recent ads) and my short-scale needs are probably about satisfied. I don't tune the bass an octave above normal, but using lighter strings from a baritone (6) set would probably facilitate this. Alternatively, have you thought about a baritone guitar?
Thanks for the offer - very kind. However, I'm in Newcastle & rarely make it over your side of the Pennines. From your description, I think the Longhorn strung an octave up will give me exactly what I'm after. Will have to battle the emo kids tomorrow & try to track down a Dano bass in a shop round here... Cheers - B.
20. Cheers Martin - I hope we have another chance to meet up soon

MB1 Feedback

Sold a case to Martin yesterday in possibly BC's fastest ever deal - the whole transaction couldn't have been easier. Martin is immensely trustworthy and easy to deal with - super-fast communications and the face-to-face handover turned into an extended bass-related chat and a right laugh. Cheers Martin
22. Now that was quick - advertised, sold and delivered in less than 3 hours
23. Hi MB1 - I'm in Fallowfield (or my office is in the city centre). I'll pm you now.
24. Hi all, an older and basic hardcase - brown tolex covered with a thin aluminium strip around the edge. In good condition and clean. Yellow plush interior - again, reasonably clean for its age. This is a basic, rectangular case but is reasonably protective and great for travelling with a Precision or Jazz. £5 collected from central Manchester - the whole fiver will be donated to Basschat ('can't say fairer etc.)
25. Hi, as Bassbod says, the sound of a longhorn is what it is (to be honest, and in my opinion, the sound isn't great - quite hollow and clanky). However, the upside is that the basses are really comfortable, ridiculously light and super-easy to play - in fact, they're really good fun. The inherent tone of the bass isn't a big deal if you have good eq on an amp/desk etc. Also, with a decent effects unit (I've been using a bass pod pro xt and a Boss gt6b) you can get some great results. Try to get hold of a Dano on trial if you can - you're welcome to borrow mine if you can collect but I'm in Manchester.
