Absolutely no connection with the seller but there is this in the BC listings: I have a Maruszczyk Elwood 4a 32”” and I can safely say it is the best playing bass I have ever owned. This price looks like a bargain. I have several medium scales now. One problem is the limited range of strings available for genuine medium scales but some people say they do fine using full scale strings. I happen to like D’Addario nickel rounds and chrome flats, so I am catered for at reasonable prices for medium scale strings but if you prefer other brands, their medium scale strings can be hard to find and seem to command a price premium over standard scale. BTW: Gretsch now do a medium scale for around £500. There is also the Hartwood Satellite for £199 (Gear4Music), if you like slightly off the wall designs. I also picked up an 80s Greco P/J for just over £200. Various similar Yamahas, Arias, etc come up occasionally for much less than your £1K max. Happy hunting!

If the magnets can be taken away, they can be replaced or magnetized. If the pickups are packed into resin, then it is easier to use a specific magnetizer or change the pickups.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I did order an Ibanez Mezzo SRMD205 from Gear 4 Music to try out the 32in scale. Really nice bass and the scale is perfect. Just my hands are too small for the 5 string. I do have an old Yamahe BB404F which I found was making my wrist hurt. So I bought a couple of short scale basses 2 years ago: a U5 Fretless and a Warwick Rock bass. After trying out the Ibanez, it seems like the perfect scale. I've seen the mediums that are for sale on here, look nice, but are too far away from me. I will revisit and see if anything is worth the trip to go and see.

Get an ACG. Mine was easily the best built instrument I've ever owned. They come up 2nd hand for under a k easily.

Friday night saw Hurtsfall's first proper headlining gig. This was at Liquid Light in Nottingham, which is first and foremost a brewery that has a bar and occasional events such as gigs and film nights. I discovered the place as it used to be home to the best vegan burgers in Nottingham. Unfortunately they seem to have moved on and there was no food on when we played. The PA is something else - it looks home-brewed but sounds great - see the photo of support band St Lucifer: There were plenty of people about while the bands were setting up and sound checking, but only a few of them opted to come inside once the actual gig started which was a bit disappointing for opener Joshua Todd, but luckily for the us and St Lucifer it filled up as the evening went on. I don't think the location helps, although it's close to the city centre, it's on an industrial estate and quite hard to find if you've not been before. With it being our first headlining set we were able to play for longer than our normal 30-35 minutes, and dusted off a couple of songs that we haven't done for a while. While it would have been nice for a few more people to have been there, once again we were competing with a goth festival in Morecambe and some of our audience were definitely in attendance there. Still it wasn't band for our first self-organised gig and we sold a decent amount of merch afterwards. Hopefully I'll be posting some more photos of us playing later in the week when they appear on social media. Next gig is also with St Lucifer in Manchester on Saturday 27th September.
