D6C is a complicated unit. Try to find someone who has manuals, tools and knows latest HW updates. -

I bought a "cheap" classic vibe p bass to play my own wedding over in Latvia to save me travelling with my ray , Sometimes, Ive taken it to gigs which need two tunings .. and a quick swap. The last time I We giggled I didn't swap I retuned the p to standard and kept going as it sounded immense .. I was quite literally dancing with another woman Infront of my rather outraged .. Stingray .. ... Even the photos look like I'm having more fun. I'm considering doing it again ... Especially as I've now got an anagram which removes the need for two basses as the pitch shifter is great....Send help or a good divorce lawyer

I keep thinking about connecting my Sony Walkman Pro to my system; I think it needs a service though. -
The basses I use for gigs are under £500. Not that I wouldn't gig an expensive bass, but the two 5-stringers that I own and play pretty much exclusively now were not expensive. In fact I'm starting to consider moving on some 4-stringers to make way for a new build (it's been a while and I'm itching!)

One of the first basses made for me by Alan Cringean of ACG. Genuinely compares with other high-end basses I’ve played. Get your hand on one (even mine) to see/hear for yourself. I’m confident that you will at least consider getting one (or two)….
-
I suppose the other way of looking at this question is how much you need to spend to get something that will do the job that you need it to, and then anything greater than this is expensive. So for me a MM Stingray ~£2 to £3k (half that if second hand) is the instrument I feel most comfortable playing, and hence anything more is "expensive" (as per my comment above). I will choose to ignore the fact that a £550 Mexican Fender Jazz into a £25 DI box would get me through most gigs!

All unused, top quality sets. Double ball ends but possibly can be used for shorter basses. 37” length. (I could use the outer strings on my standard scale bass but would rather sell as sets). * Newtone 5 string sets x 6: Diamond Bass, hex core, stainless steel, 46-130, length 37” (ball end to ball end) with tapered B. £25 each (discount for multi purchase) ( I also have a Hot Wires 5 string flat wound set…pm me)

And he's also very well known for being a mega cheapskate, so he bought the cheapest he could find and that was that Höfner (correct spelling), the rest is history.

*PRICE INCLUDES UK POSTAGE * Wicked pedal! Tracks beautifully. Only selling as I’m now using multi-effect unit. In great condition (I may even have original box…can’t find at the moment m). Does an octave below and/or above. Also has an independent boost effect. Blurb here: Octavius tri-tone generator has 4 controls LO OCT, HIGH OCT, MASTER MIX and BOOST. LO OCT knob lets you set the volume of the lower octave signal produced by the pedal. HIGH OCT knob controls the volume of the higher octave signal produced by the pedal. The balance between the levels of these 2 knobs is what creates your particular octave-divided sound. Experiment with your mix, and you’ll be amazed at the variety of effects you’ll get. MASTER MIX knob lets you set the overall volume of your low and high octaves compared to your direct signal. Use the BOOST knob to control the output of your octave-divided sound. The boost function lets you dial in a solo level, whether the overdrive circuit is activated or not.

Bought these recently here and they’re great but I decided to go with my preferred choice on a bass I’ve modded for a particular situation. In my trial with them I found them to be quiet and even with low output as described (alnico standard) but much better than stock pickups. In other words...pro improvement. My East UK active preamp has gain adjustment so that didn’t pose a problem. I thought they were vintage voiced (60’s) but even slap style sounded pleasant. I preferred the more hi-fi sound of the EMG for the stuff I’m doing (plus I have more vintage styled instruments available). I also did the series/parallel switching with them and that was great (versatile option) but you can choose either as both ways sounded great. The original post: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/518269-celinder-ss-humbucker-alnico-jazz-pickups-sold/#comment-5561431 I have epoxied the tabs so they’re much better and poses no problems to mount the pickups. I’m asking what I paid for them and this includes UK shipping.

Anyone have experience in the Ashdown ABM 900 Evo III made in China? How is the quality? Different from UK built Ashdown?

richh started following Blister on right hand finger
-
I've been learning for a while, but have recently had more time to practise, and now have a blister on my right hand index finger from plucking / activating the string (sorry, not sure of the correct terminology)! I don't want to stop playing, if anything, I'd like to step it up as I have more free time over the next couple of weeks. Any suggestions please? Lay off, continue and ignore? Or even use another finger / fingers - currently just using right hand index finger. Thanks wise ones, I hope there are some ideas?

If you like like challenges, there are also some fretless headless neck through multiscale basses out there too... Nothing is indeed impossible.

I've mentioned this before but during Covid I had to take a bass down to Laurence Dixon. Opened the door to the 'showroom' and there were maybe a dozen DBs lined up on the floor, just in from a big London orchestra for fettling and/or repair. Every single one of them had faint but clear pencil marks on the neck where the dots would be ...

I guess the question is more what is a too expensive bass than what is an expensive bass, because you have to put the work done and the hardware price in balance as well as the research, patent, trial and error, prototypes and so on. So, to me, any Fender is too expensive as it's basically 2 planks screwed together and sometimes really screwed (see what I did here). I've always preferred luthier made instruments than mass production ones, because you know who you are giving your money to and you can get (almost) exactly what you want after a very long dialogue. The limit depends on so many factors that the best answer has already been given wisely: Expensive meaning simply something you can't afford.

There are so many Flim tunes I would love to get down but he is all over the place and it takes ages to even get close 😃
