Those preamps (Touring, Spyder, probably any Dual Tube ones) are muted bevor Master Volume, that is the grid of its first triode is connected to the ground (muted), but the rest isn’t. This valve, especially when not very good one, could be the “receiver”. You might like to replace this valve with another one labeled as V1 (low noise, less microphonic, etc.). If you are going to do so, you need to check whether it’s a 12AX7/ECC83 or something else.

I had a Violin bass and many years ago learnt on a borrowed Senator bass. The spacing at the bridge is about 14mm which I found too close for finger style playing, my other basses are 18/19 mm. I think they lend themselves to plectrum playing. Almost all their basses are short scale which I suspect also lead to there lack of popularity back when everyone else was using long scale.

If you hadn't, I would have. . . . As it is, I am entirely satisfied with @ash's old E-MU Classic Keys.

Working through the ABRSM piano grades
bass_dinger replied to bass_dinger's topic in Other Instruments
Nowadays, even the ABSRM syllabus is not entirely classical. For Grade 3, students have 48 pieces to choose from. I am learning Henry Mancini's Moon River, and a simple ragtime piece from the 1950s. And, I confess, the entirely classical Chanson Italienne by Tchaikovsky. There is also a choice of Joni Mitchell (Both Sides Now), something from Oliver, a piece from Spirited Away, the Muppet Show theme, and Can You Feel the Love Tonight from the Lion King. Admittedly, even this is not really cutting-edge and modern, but they are recognisable tunes (well, not when I play them, but you get my drift). -
Good luck!

Creativity probably depends a lot on the drug. Maybe mushrooms or LSD could help the creative process while crystal meth or heroin probably won't. Im no expert on this. I smoked the odd joint in my early twenties and thats the limit of my experience.

£721 quoted by Danny at Bass Japan Direct which I assume includes everything except 20% UK VAT. Although I have a feeling it would be worth it in absolute terms, can't help thinking about what else could I buy for £865. -

As you say, sometimes it works. I look at clips of bands like Motley Crue back in the 80s when they were drunk/drugged to the eyeballs and they were great. Look at clips since they’ve gotten sober and, well not so good would be diplomacy at work.

What I have seen through the years I'd say that for most the drugs and booze didn't do good. I knew very few that could be stoned and creative but very very few. Most of the users had serious problems after some time. Even the ones who survived hard use, seem to be teetotallers more or less. This creative thing has some sort of aura in many art circles, although the hardest working successful groups did really much work, ABBA, Beatles, Rolling Stones... The drug use has been, shall I say, glorified like creativity, but are the amounts that big after all? Can you do lots of work if you are stoned all the time, I doubt that. One record is most likely a nice accident, but five or more requires organized work for a long time.

I had to learn this a few years back, loved it. It was a challenging number for the band, I can still clearly remember how pleased we felt when we first played it. I can also clearly remember how unimpressed the audience were and how much happier they were when we moved on to Mustang Sally, Alright Now and Love Shack 🙄 - Today

... and what a great bit of kit it is, the Ferrofish B4000+. Sounds great even through the line input of my PF-85. Thanks again @bass_dinger.

Don’t ruin this for me. The way I see it this is just getting some fundamentals in, foot in the door and that.

Interesting to see how there are different products worked on together on the production line. I expected them to work in batches in each stage, ie 100 of product A, then 50 of product B. It also interested me that their most premium guitars relied less on human input and more on robotic. As a consumer it’s normally expected those products would be cheaper.

Assuming you mean those available as a "reaction", they can be useful in some circumstances, in my experience. For example, before they were introduced on Github many comment threads on issues would fill up with posts containing "+1" and no other text. Now, anyone wishing to show their support need only click the reaction emoji, greatly reducing clutter.

It's interesting that just because you're a musician in a band it's assumed you're into drugs. Most musicians I know are stoned cold sober and it's the audience who are stoned. As you say, not everyone is into it.
