You know there might be more than I've been led to believe, but it's possible this amp had been serviced with non-spec'd or alternate parts- which might have to do with why the output is so anemic. I'm not the tech though, and life's too short for some things... Thanks again for the files though!

Old music players with their violins, even worse. I try to keep my hands off of any fender based thread. The design is an old hat, electronics cheapo, and the whole concept was neatly described by @BigRedX. Leo did evolve, but there are lots of bassists here who - some of which most likely - believe that a P or a J is the ultimate weapon (no, not that Jaco thing again, because he decided to mod the existing fretboard severely). They were and are the stepstones, because they are so numerous and cheap (from many viewpoints). I have never played a P bass that I would have liked, because of quality (CS was far from its ridiculous price tag), or sound. The pickup looks like the design work was delayed and the result at that point was bolted on (sorry). Cumbersome weight and shape, as ergonomic as a violin. I have tried quite different basses during my playing years. I may not be a very good player, but I know what I want from my instruments. At the moment I play a Vigier Passion II the most, and for five string work I use an MG Genesis (I admit it could be considered as a refined J on steroids). These have super necks, and electronics that can really shape the sound. A P and a flatwound set may be the thing for someone else, not me. Basses have evolved if I haven't. Try a G&L if it has to be Leo's design.

Are they decent quality? That's a bit difficult to tell from a handful of photographs taken by the maker that no doubt show the best of the instruments in question. They look well enough made, but how can you really know until you have taken the plunge and bought one? As for the price, they are being made in Italy so, unless you are also in the EU, shipping, VAT and import duty will bring the final amount closer to £1350 in the UK for most of the examples shown on the Reverb page, and it you don't like it once you've actually tried it there is then the hassle of sending it back and reclaiming the tax paid which is no longer as straight-forward as it used to be. Personally I think that's a bit expensive for a Fender copy by someone who is still relatively unknown.

What! Have you discussed this with the powers that be? I'm fairly certain that the laws of physics still hold true where I live regarding space and time. Rob

Yes - sorry I don't have anything prior to Mk V but I thought there could be some similarities.

A general thanks to the majority of contributors to this thread for engaging thoughtfully and honestly in the spirit I originally posted it. It's made for an interesting read and I am reassured at the moral compasses of most of you. Not sure what more can be said, so Mods - I think we can probably close this now as we're getting off topic, arguing interpretation of law etc.

Quick dumb question! I'm putting belly and arm carves into a Telecaster body (boo; hiss etc) and ultimately it will be getting a plastic wrap finish courtesy of a local car place that is willing to give it a try. The body already has a poly coat on it apart from the bits that I have shaped. They will be getting painted so the wrap will stay on. Do I need to use a sealer before the paint, and if so can someone recommend a rattle can sealer? Or do I just paint it - will paint alone protect the body wood enough? ta

My stubby fingers won’t get to those notes anyway. 😂

My fender P into my 25yo GK is still the best sounding combo for the music I play. Tried the fancy active basses and class D amps and they just don’t have the tone needed. There is no “better” only different.

Those tweeter specs are helpful, thank you. My problem is that nobody in Europe appears to stock the Goldwood. GT-1016. There is this thread from 2007 (!) on alternatives https://billfitzmaurice.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11162 The following are supposed to be alternatives, but I can't find anyone who can confirm they are good alternatives and work. Pulse PLS00306 <-- Can't find anywhere near to me Monacor MPT-016 <-- Available at Thomann (https://www.thomann.co.uk/monacor_mpt_016.htm) Quite expensive each. GRS PZ1016 NPeople have claimed that these are a replacement and the model number indicates at least a relationship to the Goldwood but are 4Ohm as opposed to 8Ohm, noit sure if this is an issue TBH. Available at https://www.soundimports.eu/en/grs-pz1016.html I have been offered something from a kind basschatter so will enquire there first. Also it may well be that the issue with all of this is a simple wiring issue and a fault finding check may find the issue. My issue is still that I'm unclear on how to fault find a piezo speakers. Thanks Rob

Perhaps not. But it does make it consistent and consistency is required for the old "ignorance of the law is no defence" to carry any weight. And ultimately no other body / person / dictionary editor gets to make a definition that carries consequence and enforceability. So in a practical manner rather than academic, no other definition is important.

@Hellzero The thread about the crossover, oddly enough from @neepheid, is here https://www.billfitzmaurice.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26505 I believe that the view from Bill was that nothing else is needed for his design apart from the resistor. I'm no expert here, hence this thread Certainly the box as it came to me had nothing more complicated than a square resistor as shown in the picture. It may well be that it should have had something more complicated in place and has never worked, but given the (high) quality of the build. I suspect it has worked properly in the past. I have nothing to back this up, but would love to get this small cab working to its full potential. @bertbass Thanks for this. That phrase "the resistor is there to prevent ultrasonic oscillations" rings a bell as I have read that in Bills forum as I've been investigating this further. I appreciate all the help, I'll try and work out what to do next. Thanks Rob
