  2. As others have said, work on the other arm in the meantime. It's not going to be load bearing for a few weeks but if you can get yourself into a position which a) isn't painful and b) involves a bass being in a playable position, you can at least do something. If you can realistically only use one arm then it depends which arm - if it's your fretting arm then practice fretting (I've seen a bassist whose right arm was useless due to a stroke, but he played very well with just his left hand) and if it's your picking hand then practice all picking forms - two fingers, plectrum, three fingers, classical guitar style.
  3. There you go, you're working up to it. Now watch a couple of episodes of "Mrs Brown's Boys", and if you're not comatose with laughter after that, watch Spinal Tap II again and you'll appreciate it all the more.
  4. Hadn't realised it had been so long... Tuesday night there was a triffic bunch (I'm not very good at classification of this genre, bluegrass or C&W) at the Cavern. Three part vocal harmonies, guitar, bass, fiddle, banjo (in decreasing order of importance). Thursday night was the Crown at Shard End, which is a club not a pub so finishes at midnight. I appear to have become the house bassist there - the resident Orange amp is a heap of shite so I'll be taking my own along next time. It's always a relief, when Mrs Zero can't make it, if somebody else is worse at vocals than me, and there were two vying for that crown at the start of the night. Things looked up from then though.
  5. And here I thought a self profile pic was required with all new threads. Lol Daryl
  6. We had an acoustic gig at a Holloween party tonight. Way out in the country. It was freezing. Very low key gig. Excellent food. Daryl
  7. Another dep job tonight (seem to be doing alot lately) with a fairly local funk/soul outfit down in a Worthing pub. Went well I think, the band members seemed very happy with my performance. Used my yammy TRB 5 through my trusty puma 900 and a single LFsys Monza. Very happy with that rig. Pissing down for the load out but hey ho! A fun evening! X

  9. Newbie here, I don't even own a bass yet! Looking forward to learning as much as possible, and maybe finding a suitable first bass guitar. Any suggestions will be appreciated. 👍
  10. Isopropyl Alcohol is my go to for most cleaning jobs. You can try it neat or what I do to make my own kitchen cleaner spray that cuts through grease is put about 5-10% isopropyl to water and a squirt of washing up liquid in a spray bottle. We've got quartz worktops (not recommended btw) and it does a good job on those. I add a couple of drops of tea tree oil but that's optional. Another thing I use (but not in the kitchen) is TFR (traffic film remover), it's nasty so wear gloves and dilute it. Both are really cheap and will last you ages.

  14. I left one band because the guitarist was shagging the singer, and the guitarist's wife would ring me asking where he was. I didn't want to either drop him in it or lie to her, so I left.
  15. Hi Chris, Seems I don’t automatically get a notification when someone replies! I’ve PM’d you the number. Terry
  16. Hello there, Basschatters -- Joel here, on the west coast of New England (Vermont), and truly inspired/amused/warmed/educated/humoured/delighted by what I've found in this community. Probably a bassist because low frequencies carry furthest. I'm a musical omnivore. Have played in cover bands, originalists, theatre pits -- and through it all, for decades, co-composing and recording improvised and faux classical (Euro and Hindustani), blues and jazz, rock and roll -- as one-half of "Orchestra naïF". No regular gigs these days, but haven't ruled 'em out. So long as they'd wind down well before midnight. Meanwhile, I play, and work to unlearn unhelpful habits.
  17. There's such a thing as "low" gain? That term doesn't feature in my vocabulary 🤣
  18. Just seen a band called Parcels do a Tiny Desk and I am a bit obsessed with the harmonies, great piano and really tasty bass playing.

  19. Fabulous amps. I still have mine which sadly hasn’t been used above bedroom levels for 7 years now, yet I’m still tempted to buy another. The only amp you’d ever need to my mind, amazing power with endless tone options. GLWTS
  20. Ok, so ive got back from the pub after a few drinks. Mate wanted to watch it so we put it on. This time, a few more chuckles, especially the guy in the audience shouting out “do stone henge’ during the intro to stone henge 😂
  21. Ha - did that this evening, although better than breaking my whirlwind cables that are getting so expensive you can almost buy a bass for the same price!
  22. Me too. Got a stack of Markbass gear 👌
  23. Selling my Novation AFX Station. Released a few years ago now, the AFX Station is a limited edition Bass Station II with some input from Aphex Twin. Looks great in black and having a lot of the secondary functions printed on the instrument really helps navigating all the additional features. Boxed with everything that came with it new (power supply, USB Cable, paperwork), plus a Decksaver Perspex cover. Collection from Peckham SE15 or can post in UK at buyer’s expense. My feedback thread is here
