  3. Ian Prowse at Alexander’s in chester , jeez what a show, performer , poet, songsmith. with a fiddle and a flautist/penny whistler to accompany, the guy just tells stories from the heart. Mersey centric but honest and open to the core, love the guy ❤️❤️
  4. I had a 5-string years ago. Tried for a long time but couldn't get on with it. I'm happy with a 4-string.
  5. As long as you don't play too hard, but that might be pushing it otherwise. Possibly worth investigating a set with a .110 lowest string, it maybe just buy just that string by itself? Or just buy a 5 string and be done 😎
  6. Pleased to report a successful session with the Lekato WS-70. Paired straight away, worked great all session. No latency issues. Used it for a bit over 2 hours and it still is reporting 75% charge. Unfortunately it was raining, so had to stay indoors at the rehearsal room. I could only go a few metres away from the receiver, but I hid behind drums and people and it didn't upset the signal at all. The only negative thing to report is that it might be having a slight negative effect on sustain - long notes seemed to die quicker than I was expecting, but it's only a suspicion at this time.
  7. The BB2 is deeper and fuller sounding to my ears. The SM is less deep, but deep enough, and sounds better when pushed a little. Both are very loud. In smaller venues the SM is more than adequate and sounds far better than it's size would suggest. It sounds a bit more "angry" than the BB2. I've owned these cabs for 9 years now and they have handled every situation I've gigged in. (I've used Barefaced cabs since the beginning in 2009ish?) The combination of the two is as much as anyone could need. (in my opinion.) Frank.
  8. Previous to this I was using one of my Bergantino 1x12s for smaller gigs - they are the version with ceramic drivers so a bit heavier. The Bergs are 8ohm and 350w rated. They sound great ( particularly if using two) but I wanted something that could tick over at lower volumes yet still take the full juice from my amp. I find that the GR208 has ample bottom end and is a bit tighter sounding than the 112. It probably gets louder too when pushed. It has SECA drivers which I believe are well rated. My Bergs now constitute a 'big rig' but I don't have much need any more really and they haven't come out gigging since I got this. This mini rig fits my needs well and I can drive my amp a bit harder without getting crazy loud.
  9. Nice! If 1997, is it one of the delicious smaller body size ones, with the Suhr pickups and preamp? I sold one of those. IDIOT
  10. Better than any other string I've ever played. I use Hi Beams which are very bright and I get several months out of a set before needing to change them. The do lose that fresh out of the packet zing like all strings, but they remain bright and aggressive.
  11. Do they maintain the brightness of new strings?

Latest backing track - lots more on my youtube channel.....
  13. Totally worth it, DR are incredibly high quality and last a very long time.
  14. My current setup, not much room for owt else at the moment tbf 😂 I forgot just how incredibly good the Tone Hammer is when used properly (i.e. setting up your whole sound with the AGS as part of it, and it’s always on - not as a second channel you can have on and off at different points of a gig) Once I realised that I’ve found it’s actually one of the most versatile and best sounding preamps there is. Goliath adds some massive fat tubey-ness to my sound, gratuitous and probably unnecessary but it sounds fantastic. Markbass Compressor is really good too, well impressed with it. Gonna get a Trickfish signal filter (LPF & HPF with makeup gain) to put at the end of the chain and probably a JDI after that, and I’m toying with the idea of a DCX Bass too, I might tidy it up as some point as well 😁
  15. Of course. But the gauge difference is minimal. I suppose it depends on how the nut "grooves" are at the moment.
  16. To accommodate the wider string gauge.
  17. I'm tuned down a semitone and the E is dropping to D flat. Do you think that gauge would work?
  18. Yeah, because they're great and you won't have to file the nut. That's the whole point of them. Wound at higher tension so you can downtune and not get enough flop to necessitate giving the strings viagra.
  19. They're expensive. Almost £20 more than D'Addario
  20. Thanks everyone who has commented so far. My mistake, the strings are D’Addario XL-170 Nickel, so the set is 45, 65, 80, 100. The tension on the E-string (.100) is 15.782kgs, so that explains the flapping. On heavier gauges, this (obviously) increases. the .105 has a tension of 17.31kgs the .107 has a tension of 17.931kgs the .110 has a tension of 18.795 It appears I have some string testing to do.
  21. Might be worth trying the EXL 165 set then, that's what I use and the E string handles drop D just fine for me.

  23. The action on my Rick is stupidly low. You won't have a problem with the DR'S.
