However, just for you lot, I'll risk incarceration under international law and get something recorded at some point. Not any time soon, sadly, but I'll certainly get round to it. With the ACG, I think the combination of asymmetric neck profile, flat fingerboard, 33" scale, single-cut body and balance point/position on the strap conspire to produce a bit of a WTF-moment the first time you pick it up... and then it's all sweet from there. It's just brilliant for little wombat guys like me (wombat terminology shamelessly stolen from Eude). Now, of course, I have the same WTF-moment switching back to the other basses. As you can see, they're about the same length, top-to-toe: I laid the Skelf on the SR5 so you can get an idea of how the body sizes/shapes compare: And here I lined up the bridge saddles between the two, so there's a fixed reference point: And that roughly illustrates the difference in the way they hang on the strap too. The Skelf sits much more "over to the right", and the fact the strap button's just behind the top of the neck at the 12th fret position helps to bring the neck up and in towards you (and it just sits there -- no neck dive [b]at all[/b]). I'd estimate that although there's only an inch difference in the scale length between the Skelf and the SR5, there's probably a good 2 or 3 inches difference in the position of the nut when they're hanging on the strap. I really found that the playing position shifts a good couple of inches to the right even on Scoop's 34" Skelf (Lazerus). The kinda reverse shape of the Skelf SC makes it a very comfortable bass to play, for shorter "wombat-like" individuals like myself, or maybe even someone who wants to go for a 35", or even a 36" without the added stretch and resultant horrible wrist angle. Very nearly went for the Skelf SC for my bass, but I was seduced by the Finn SC. Unless there's some major reason why it's a bad idea, that means you could feasibly get the nut even closer to you by setting the bridge further back. (That said, it might start to be uncomfortable to reach that far to the right to play by the bridge when you want a bit more bite.) Not only is the Skelf extremely comfortable... it's also the first bass I've owned that doesn't look ridiculous on me. I mean, I'm not [i]that[/i] small (5' 6"), but the average bass swamps my body. The Skelf just neatly tucks itself out of the way under my right arm and all's well with the world. Actually, Ewan... you know that picture? The one with the pout? Couldn't stick it up here, could you? It's... ahem... a good illustration of the positioning of the Skelf on the strap. So, if anyone's interested, here are the weights: ACG Skelf: 9lb 1oz (4.11 kg) StingRay 5: 9lb 13oz (4.45 kg) OLP 5: 9lb 11oz (4.40 kg) MM SUB: 9lb 13oz (4.45 kg) Hondo: 9lb 4oz (4.19 kg) I knew the Skelf [i]felt[/i] lighter, but I'd thought it could be an illusion due to how it balances. Nope. It's lighter than all the others. Splendid. And soundclips... one day, one day. They [i]will[/i] happen, once my shoulder gets better and I can play properly again. [/quote] Wow, I seriously thought your Skelf was lighter than that, my guess would've been nearer 8 lbs dead! That means that my own basses are probably a good 1 or 2 lbs heavier than I thought then. These are just the highlights from [url="http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=104998"]the porn thread[/url], and you can [url="http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=61632"]read about the build here[/url]. Quick spec highlights: black limba and wenge throughout; 33"-scale unlined fretless 5-string; ACG RFS triple-coil pickup with coil-switching; piezo bridge. As with the Skelf, it's got Thomastik Jazz flats on. With the triple-coil pickup and the piezo bridge, there's a wealth of tones in there and I've barely started to scratch the surface. (Tonally, that is. If I physically scratched the surface, I'd be a bit gutted.) Goes from dub to funk and everywhere in between. And beyond. And actually, I have noticed a few basses around that appear to have no pickups but have tone knobs so I always assumed that they were practice basses that you could plug your headphones into but clearly that's not the case.
