Bristol Music Shops

I'm going to Bristol for the weekend and will have a couple of hours to kill tomorrow afternoon before my mates arrive so I'm wondering if there are any decent music shops worth checking out.

Any suggestions?

They aren't great, Rikkaxxe is run by one of the bad sort of music shop guys, who looks down on customers and basically has a shop to house his collection. Across the bear pit with the bad buskers from there is Mickleburgh and that is ok, downstairs is the electric instruments and a guy who calls you 'dude' in the least convincing way ever. Then down the road is the House of Bass, where you should come so I can try and sell you my stuff.

Thanks for the info, Mr Foxen. I find being called 'dude' or 'babe' by anyone is always somewhat disconcerting! :)

Does your 'House of Bass' feature anything for a left-handed bass player? I presume not....

Where exactly is your place, please.

If you want a strange music shop experience try Electric Ladyland. It's about half a mile from the Marriott Hotel. Full of old gear and run by Steve, who is a law unto himself. Asks too much for anything and seems reluctant to sell things as he has become attached to them. However a good look at the history of electric instruments and amps.

To the OP get yourself around to Electric Ladyland and press your nose against the window (I doubt he'll be actually open)

I remember years ago they had a pair of paisley Precisions in the window, 1 fretted and the other fretless, I so wanted to go in and try them, but I wasn't actually sure it was a shop, museum, someone's front room, or an "adult" shop....bizarre place, but intriguing.

He (For it is a he called Steve) had a set of Antigua's on the wall last time I was pressed against the glass.
If you want to go in it's best to phone ahead.

Hi, Does anyone in the Bristol area have a current telephone number for Steve at Electric Ladyland? When I call the number in the directory (0117 983 2500), I either get an engaged signal or a message saying that the number is no longer in service depending on the phone I use. Always the same, regardless of day or time. Is the store still open? Thanks.

Steve's a bit of an aging rocker legend. He will rarely sell you anything, but has many, many stories. Just don't go in there if you are a little asthmatic...
