Sterling By MusicMan - Review in BGM

I've only read the Ray34 part so far (well I've got one and it would be rude not to read about it) and the review seems pretty spot on. The only thing that disappointed was the mention in the precis about minor finish blemishes, but no mention of them in the actual review. Definitely great basses and a kick up the rear end for Lakland's, overpriced by comparison, Indonesian Skyline range.

Thanks for putting the article up, nice read.

Although they look really good and from what I remember at the guitar show last year, they played and sounded very good, I still dont get why you would spend the money on a new one of these when you can get a really nice s/h Stingray 5 for similar money on here. Maybe when these show up second hand they will be worth a look, might be a bit of a bargain then.

Maybe some people just like new instruments.
I believe that they are more cost effective for our Yankee cousins, as over there they are a lot cheaper. 300-400 quid max.
It really is depressing knowing kids are paying that much for washburns and epiphones over here!

Not read the review yet but i almost got a Ray34 a while back when i was researching the whole MM thing.
There is a good Ed Friedland video on YT where he reviews both the SB14 and Ray34. they sound great to my untrained ears.

And i agree, considering these are active basses they seem much better value than Lakland Skylines. Not quite as nice though ;-)

Might even sell my Sub and get a SB14 at some point.

Ive had my Natural Ray 34 for a month now and am stoked with it. Having fairly recently played a real American Stingray i am stunned at how this thing is identical in every way bar where it was constructed. The sound is identical, the feel is identical, the looks are identical and the build quality on mine is simply sublime. Its also easily stacks up well against the SUB, better looks and equally as well built and comes with the with the 3 band eq (although i dont touch the mid control!)
Ernie Ball should have done the Ray 34 thing 15 years ago. :)
You paid £550 for the new Ray35? Thats really good, best I could find it online was actually asking price of £779. I could be tempted at £550 new.
It was a 34, I got it from Soundslive, they're up to £570 now, but their original first shipment price was £520 which I missed by a day :) . Their current price for the 35 is way higher at £780, I don't really understand the disparity.

Boring I know, but should we be posting presumably copyright reviews fom a current issue? Just asking :)

Should be glad it's not Carol Kaye I 'spose
Personally, I can't see a point of paying £500-600 for "Sterling by..." if you can buy second hand american made musicman for £700. That's not a cheap alternative.
If the Sterling by's are close to a real MM then personally i would save a couple of £100 (at least) and have a brand new, covered by warranty bass in the colour of my choice, when i want it.

But thats just me.

I don't see where is the harm in this, I also don't agree with it being a copyright breech, everyone does it as reference, if anything its free advertising to both the Magazine (and by God, don't they need it!) and the Bass company, and it's not as if we are playing music in a shop without paying for the PRS (Performance Right Society).

Addtionally the beauty of a PDF file is that it's uneditable and as such cannot fall in the copyright breech loophole, since the original material and it's layout belonging to the copyright owner remains unchanged.

Should anyone object to this, they can go ahead and delete it, I certainly won't get a heartburn over it.
