Nice, but £700, not including the missing bits? :) Not too sure about the seller's knowledge "the fretboard is mahogany" - o rly?

I have one of these, with frets & a maple board (and both ashtrays & original knobs) - in the unlikely event anyone buys this for £700, mine will be on Ebay next week!

I think I paid either £260 or £280 for mine. Mines in really excellent nick, and IIRC the buyer wasn't shipping.

Incidently - mine has an Ebony fingerboard, and I was under the impression that all the late '70's BB1000's were the same. The seller states that his fingerboard is Rosewood. He might just be wrong, although his does look a lighter colour than mine in his photo's but it's difficult to tell. Don't know if that's important or not.

Greco SG/EB copy
That looks pretty Doom. What's the deal with free shipping? Suffering from that ebay rule to stop the 99p + £100 post thing?

When I started out pretending to lay bass, in '73, I aspired to the 'better' fender copies. 36 years later ..I've bought my first one!

In a few days I shall take delivery of a Columbus jazz Bass, purporting to be from the 70s.

I'll post a pic when I do, and maybe someone will educate me more about what I have bought?

I think with p&p it bottomed out about £30 more in the end didn't it? Could be wrong my maths seems to have been a little awry of late

Maybe...

Same thing happened with a lovely Ibby ATK I spotted about 18 months ago, £95 BIN - or £250 to me a year later! :)

Well - that's a turn up for the book. Whatever that means:

I should add - this isn't Deaver's, just a really weird coincidence. This is only the second one of these I've ever seen!

Is it one of the two that sold on ebay recently? They both have painted in cutaways so are most likely plywood bodies. The one that sold most recently was a bit naughty describing it as solid wood, even when somebody probably pointed out it was ply.

"For the record: It has been pointed out that this is SOLID but not one piece of solid wood."

I picked up a Columbus J a few years ago - it was OK but not fantastic, the body was ply, neck was pretty decent (but I remember it being a bit chunky), hardware was functional.

As for the origin of Columbus, it's speculative. It was a UK importer brand so it's unlikely they sourced everything from the same factory, although their low-end LP copies (the ubiquitous black ones) have been 99% ID'd as Maya/Rokkomann. Variable quality - I've had 5 over the years; that Jazz, an SG (my first-ever g*it*r), two black LPs and a Strat. The best one was the SG, nice solid mahog body, real MOP inlays, green-button Kluson copy tuners - wish I hadn't killed it.

I still have the Strat, although it's currently on The Bay - it's a later Columbus Mk2 and has no identifying marks - I'd say it's either Korean or one of the more obscure Jap factories like Moridaira. Either way it's not a bad little g*it*r at all.

No use, if you spell it like that it doesn't say "git". ;)

Is it just because this appears to be in such amazingly 'new' condition that something about it doesn't ring true with me?

I've asked him to post a picture that will help put my mind to rest!

That's a pretty boggin' looking sunburst job - what's with the yellow straight to black on the lower horn? It looks like two different basses.

Yeah exactly - the sunburst looks crap - and one of the questioners has already mentioned the body wood issue. Need to see a pic of the headstock that shows how the fretboard has been applied.
