That' s beautiful example of a Modulus J bass but you are quite mistaken to say you guess it's discontinued as it is still part of the range on offer from the carbon fiber wizards from Novato California and built to custom order.

To help potential buyers UK get this in perspective the price you are offering seems quite high in Sterling almost a retail price, did you buy it from Europe or direct from the USA as our base price for a new instrument including Modulus case would be around £1675.00??

If you look at any of my previous entries like this most on the forum know who I am; seeing the comments and price being looked for meant as a member of the forum I have a responsibility in helping get the price being asked in proper perspective when for a 5 year old instrument which should be in everyone's interest, surely??

Just trying to help for the right reasons without any cynical blatant commercialism behind it...

I know who you are Ian, and I don't doubt your intentions, but - with respect - it doesn't make you exempt from the rules.

Dear All

I apologise as I thought with the opening of the thread the author was looking to get feelers out for his offer and so commented accordingly.

Must brush up on my forum etiquette...but seriously I do apologise, me heart before me head on this one.

Ciao

Don't want to derail this thread but if someone says a bass is unavailable and discontinued and it actually isn't then surely that's a 'misleading' comment (however innocently made) and if someone else knows this then shouldn't they be able to inform people about it in the most relevant place?

My reading of the first post was that the fact this was believed to have been discontinued added to the value and that that Ian was therefore right to point out that this wasn't the case.

I owned a fretted sunburst one and sold it here on the forum back in '08. At the time I also put quite a high valuation on mine based on my view of old pricing when they were only available on import. A couple of people pointed out that there was a UK distributor and that new prices had fallen. I didn't take offence and reduced my valuation accordingly.

Anyway - these are fabulous basses, fit and finish is first class & they look great in the flesh. Hope it goes to a good home :)

I totally agree!

I think the 'done thing' is to PM the seller to let them know and give them the chance to amend the ad accordingly.

If they don't, then... that's different. They become fair game, IMO. :)

Good shout Michael - I hadn't quite thought through that route!

No problem mates, sorry for the inaccuracy so I guess it was a discontinued model for my conversation with a Basscentral worker days ago, but looks like is available as a custom order, my apologies for that.
About the price: What I know is what I paid for it with the UPS shipping from the States and the customs fees once in Spain and I don't wanted to lose a lot of money here but a new lower price is already placed, anyway take a look at the Modulus site for quotes so this one has many features with an extra cost over those £1675.00 base price stated:
http://www.modulusguitars.com/v3/vj.php
-Fretless (specify with or without lines)$100
-3-tone burst $100
-Bartolini active preamp with NTBT tone system; active bass and treble $100

Cheers and thanks to the good fellows here. :)

I know this is resolved but +1 to the above. In the past I've done as Michael suggested a couple of times and PM'd sellers with similar comments re statements of 'fact' in their FS threads, and the response was, well, nothing. Whilst I think subjective opinions as to price etc. should be kept to PMs or to oneself in these cases, I think it is reasonable for a member who's in the know to make comments, as Micheal you once did, both strongly and correctly, and therefore to my mind fairly, on one of my FS threads. There are guys on here who are experts, and that expertise is why the rest of us rely on this site, especially when we are considering buying an expensive bass. OK, we could PM a seller, and if we see no response in the thread, we could resort to PMing a mod about the issue, but, TBH, do we really have the time and inclination (especially with the PITA that PM'ing has become), and do the mods really need the hassle? The form of moderated public moderation that used to happen on BC - an example of which is above in Ian's post and Michael's response - was to my mind far more what the forum should be about. Let's face it, we all seem to be more than happy to slag off pretty much every slightly overpriced bass or amp listed on ebay, and that is often quite informative in itself!

Lovely, lovely bass by the way. Interested in trades?

I certainly did, but that was before the rules changed!

It's worth bearing in mind that, at no point during any of my posts above, did I say I agree with the rules as they are now... :)

But for jsixties' sake, I reckon this is one for another thread....

Agreed, agreed and agreed - although if you're no longer a mod and if you don't agree with the rule.....? :)

Have to say that's the one fretless that I've always wanted. Stunning stunning bass. TBH Javier the last thing I need at the moment is another bass so I'll leave you alone, but on any other day.....

All the best with the sale

...why did I say something?

Two reasons... Self-moderation, which some people think BC needs more of, and... to encourage debate.

Sorry jsixties... Enjoy the bumps!
