1. Forgot to add...the great Mr Stuart Zender was on bass then...white Warwick Streamer with incredible blue laser LEDs care of my 'ol mate Mr SimS!! Stuart started the riff in the pitch black with only the LEDs shining through the darkness in the concert hall. Fab!! Ciao Ian
But the music is good (if you like it you does, if you don't...well that's how subjective music can be or not to be...that is the question). Live they are absolutely killer...saw then at a charity gig at Battersea Power Station...digeridoo an 'al. Ciao Ian
Ciao Ian
Please tell me if I'm wrong. The band is Jamiroquai, the singer is Jay Kay.Right??Why do presenters refer to HIM as Jamiroquai..Jools Holland did it last night...."And now,the man who opened the show,Jamiroquai!!! They are being portrayed as HIS backing band,as in HE'S Jamiroquai, they're just a bunch of musos got together for the show. Youda thought HE would have said something.I mean it's not the first time I've heard this. I may be wrong, but I don't think I am. Rant over!!!
3. Hiya We're having a summer clear out and the DB728 will become available if this is still of interest? We may also have some cool Glock gear as well. Ciao Ian SMART: I too would have made an offer on that 728 so, please, keep me posted if it comes available. (This was my thread initially, curse you joegarcia!) GremlinAndy
4.
Modulus did a purple metallic Flea bass but a ) they don't make them anymore, and b ) they were probably more than £300 So, uh... that probably wasn't very helpful really! ^_^
Yes they do...the Modulus Funk Unlimited and it's still available in a glorious purple big flake finish...and it's quite a bit more than 300 nicker. Hope that helps! Ciao Ian
 5. You do know we import Glock? Ciao Ian
 6. We suffered a 14% price rise last Feb/March with Modulus and with the exchange rates being what they are compared to 18 months ago this pushes up the price to end-users here in the UK unfortunately. The same effect will be felt and experienced on price rises and currency exchange rates if anyone decides to make a personal import from the USA not forgetting the import duty and good 'ol VAT back at 17.5%! Ciao Ian
 7. Next time we'll try that route as well... Happy selling! Ciao Ian
Good shout Michael - I hadn't quite thought through that route!
Must brush up on my forum etiquette...but seriously I do apologise, me heart before me head on this one. Ciao Ian
 9.
Isn't this a PM thing...?
If you look at any of my previous entries like this most on the forum know who I am; seeing the comments and price being looked for meant as a member of the forum I have a responsibility in helping get the price being asked in proper perspective when for a 5 year old instrument which should be in everyone's interest, surely?? Just trying to help for the right reasons without any cynical blatant commercialism behind it... Ciao Ian
 10. That' s beautiful example of a Modulus J bass but you are quite mistaken to say you guess it's discontinued as it is still part of the range on offer from the carbon fiber wizards from Novato California and built to custom order. To help potential buyers UK get this in perspective the price you are offering seems quite high in Sterling almost a retail price, did you buy it from Europe or direct from the USA as our base price for a new instrument including Modulus case would be around £1675.00?? Ciao Ian
 11. They were/are (depending on your perspective in time) great pickups but the Seymour Duncan Basslines MM pickup made only for the Modulus Flea/Funk Unlimited Bass is a copy of the original Lane Poor pickup that Modulus asked Seymeour Duncan to make after Lane Poor went sadly out of biz... There's a lot of hype and voodoo/mystique about the original Lane Poors which can get to be a tad OTT so I would just honestly advise people to bear this in mind as the current MM pickup for the Modulus bass is as good as and a lot less expensive than the pre-owned Lane Poors being touted around. But if a Lane Poor is what is wanted...the choice (very limited!) is always there. Ciao Ian
OMG...... Can't believe that didn't get higher bids.... I've hear of Lane Poor MM pickups going for $500 !!! Mark
12. Could not resist responding to this one...most of our sales of this bass are due to the bass being what it is and not just the fact that it was the Modulus Flea bass and continue to be so. Flea was with Modulus for approximately 10 years, people move on, it was not a falling out of either of the two parties with each other. It's still our best selling bass since the end of the endorsement because it is an instrument that can cover most genres of music you care to throw at it. So...not a dramatic public pulling away from Modulus, just the end of the endorsement deal 'cos he wanted to start up his new project with his new lower price point bass which he wanted to call the Flea Bass. It's that simple really...so the Modulus Flea had to change to the Funk Unlimited and now you have the new bass from Flea called the Flea Bass. Simples! Just received a new order from a guy for a Modulus Funk Unlimited J5 because he really liked the shape of the body as well as the other features this bass offers not because it was the Flea bass. Ciao Ian
You do realise it ended on the 13th right? That's seriously cheap for a Lane Poor fitted Flea Bass, but I think it's both a casulty of the recession and the fact Flea publically pulled away from Modulus.
14. Hi Andy Most of the basses Modulus produce are Q5s. The best coverage tone-wise for practically any genre of music we have sold is a Q5 equipped with Bartolinis and an Aguilar preamp. Monster sound and tone to die for... When we do get them in stock they go quickly as currently there is a 15-18 week lead-time on all new builds as Modulus make only to order and unfortunately no longer carry finished stock that we can call upon at short notice. If you need any further advice please ask. 15. Not sure if you've missed the postings on the Eminence bass here on Basschat under S.M.A.R.T Distribution. Please see our affiliate section. See our web pages as well for further information and links: http://www.smart-distribution.co.uk/bassan...inencebass.html We have a lot of jazzer, country and blue grass players who have been over the moon with this instrument, especially the 4-string removable neck version. I attach a customer review that might also be helpful. Any questions please feel free to ask. Ciao Ian
 16. Dear All Our emails are back online now, so again our apologies! New enquiries are welcome! Ciao Ian
 17. Hi Chris & all in this thread! Hope you are warm and well fed since we last saw each other. Spot on, I'm in the middle of updating the whole site including his Fleadom's section as it now the Funk Unlimited. Our website has a very large number of pages so please bear with me. Plus...we've been a bit bogged down with snow recently in Kent... Yes, as kindly mentioned above our prices include everything including UK mainland delivery, nothing else to pay! Regarding confidence...don't jump the gun too quickly. We're now in our 11th year of exclusivity with Modulus for the UK and Eire. Patience, a communication glitch is all it is...and as someone suggested above, you can also contact us on the 'ol phone! The world is not just the Net. Apologies to all as we just switched service providers after years with BT ...and I've been in Sweden and the Czech Republic this and last week and had limited Net availability which is for me highly unusual and not up to our normal service levels. If anyone over the next few days needs to mail me do it through the forum or until further notice use: [email protected] As the TV screen rarely says these days: 'normal service will be resumed shortly' Ciao Ian S.M.A.R.T Distribution PS Looks like I need to change my Avatar as well!!!
Isn't the stuff about Flea Basses on the site now significantly out of date (I believe Modulus don't call them Flea Basses any more)?
21.
When's Ian from SMART coming back along? Eagerly awaiting what he has to say!
Dear Everyone My apologies for the long delay in replying properly to this but I've been in and out of the UK on biz like the proverbial yo-yo these past two and a half months plus my main contact at Modulus has been on extended leave to take care of family things so communication has not been great on this one! From the horses mouth - Flea had an extension to his long contract with Modulus that has now indeed ended on a positive note, nothing dire or acrimonious or anything between the lines with the new name of this instrument just that the contract after over 10 years came finally to an end and he and his management team decided to change direction. he still uses his Modulus basses live so it's nothing to do with the instrument or back-up from Modulus. It is well known, that comments were made to Flea about his bass sound in recent years (or lack of it) when he started to use an old Fender 'J' bass on stage and so he reverted to his Modulus signature bass (Modulus in actual fact sent him the burst finish instrument that he has been seen using the last few years (remember the RHCP on 'Live at Abbey Road' last year?) immediately he realised this; they could have got really funny about him not using a Modulus during his Fender 'renaissance' but that is not really the laid-back Californians style in Novato. Anyhow, all good things eventually come to an end, Flea has decided not to renew his Modulus contract and in all honesty that really does not change anything about what is one of the great 4-string basses in recent decades. Rumours on the grapevine is that he is likely to launch his own signature bass at a low-to-mid price point, something made in the Far East sporting a wooden neck. It will be interesting to see what this turns out to be if the rumours are correct at the NAMM show in January 2009. Many of our customers were inspired to take up a Modulus Flea bass because of Flea's playing but equally many took to it simply because it is a bass guitar that can cover practically any genre of music you care to throw at it particularly when equipped with its Seymour Duncan Basslines MM pickup (only made for this bass a copy of the original Lane Poor pickup) and a superb Aguilar OBP-1 preamp. So now the Modulus Flea bass is now the Funk Umlimited bass. I suppose another positive about this is that players that took to the 4 and 5-string version of the Flea bass such as Stefan Lessard of the Dave Matthews band can now have a superb instrument without the moniker or fact that the bass is no longer a signature instrument but stands on its own 4 or 5-strings so to speak! The Modulus Flea bass was one of our most popular models here in the UK. The Modulus Funk Unlimited will also be one of our most popular because it's a great bass, period. We have a new Funk Unlimited in Silver Flake with matching headstock, Seymour Duncan Basslines MM pickup, Badass II bridge, Aguilar OBP-1 plus Modulus hard case arriving in the next two weeks plus the same spec bass but in the absolutely outrageous Orange Flake arriving soon thereafter. Both are stock basses so if anyone is interested let me know as they will go quickly. 22. Don't forget to contact you local friendly official Modulus distributor here in the UK.... Contact us at S.M.A.R.T and we can sort this out for you. Kind regards Ian
While some people love them, I really dont like Tort scratchplates. Just got this beauty from Marcus (top bloke) I took the guard off cause I was just gonna leave it like that, but unfortunatly Modulus dont look all that great at fitting scratchplates as its left indents in the paint where they have screwed the plate on too hard. I was thinking about getting a clear guard, althou i really fooking hate them. but still, the marks might show thru the guard. So, what colour do you think and where can I get hold of one? ive googled it and cant find them anywhere. I really dont fancy importing one from modulus, that is if they actually sell them seperate (guessing they might not as the serial number is on the back of the guard too. any Ideas?
23. Glockenklang only offers 10" neos at this time as they feel the current crop of 12's and 15's etc in neo format simply can't hack it. When they do then, then they'll be part of the Glock range. They will not jump on the neo fashion band wagon. I spoke to Udo Kempt-Giessing at Glockenklang about this last year and he is extremely fussy about this and will not put the Glockenklang brand on anything that does not equal a neo's predecessor. Just some thoughts... Ciao Ian
Are there any problems associated with neodynium magnets, which aren't being spoken about? I would have thought that if a way of making cabinets much lighter came along it would be snapped up and introduced by manufacturers across the board, but this hasn't happened, why not?
Whether his Fleaness is directly connected with the bass name now or not, its' still our best seller simply because its a tremendous instrument that can cover practically any style and genre of music and dare I say it...it's a Modulus!!
