Where do you buy tubes?

Are you looking for NOS British tubes or the new (Russian) Mullard reissues? If you're looking for the reissues, then Hotrox or Watford Valves are good places to start. If you're looking for NOS tubes, then you're in for a search... eBay's probably a good place to start (but the chance of getting a dud is probably high).

If you mean full bass,no treble or precense, yes.Still not enough in my opinion, that's why i called a technician at Matamp
who recommended changing the middle tube to a JJ ECC 82/12AU7.I'll try that and see what happens.

I thought the reason most modern valves are madeoutside of Europe is because some of the metals used in them/production techniques involve 'toxic' metals/chemicals which are not economic to use under EU law. Totally haven't got a citation for that at the moment though.

All I know is there's some clued up fella's who want to make "Mullard" valves and are near enough to going into production with them that the fella I take my amp to told me about em when I mentioned getting hold of some NOS.

He reckons they'll be pretty close to the originals otherwise they wouldn't be bothering / he wouldn't know about them. He designs and makes bespoke valve hifis mostly so he knows his valves.

Thats a shame I have about 20 Mullard ECC82's, I thought you were after the ECC83's ( which are hard to find at decent prices) when you said Mullard pre amp tubes...

No kidding?
Do you have one that has ridiculously fat sound, very low and warm midrange and not so bright top end?

Not quite Mullards, but these are made in Blackburn in the original Mullard factory:

They're a new design that's a direct drop in for the ECC81/2/3. They're, unsurprisingly, not cheap... but have had pretty good write-ups so far. If you want new production, then I hear the new Tung Sol's are good too.

That'll be them then. I dunno why I had Coventry in my mind. I've never even been there :)

I used to work at the Mullard factory in the 80s. I made Geiger Muller tubes, single channel electron multipliers (SCEMs) and image intensifier envelopes. I was told that some of the SCEMs I made were ordered by NASA & went to space in one of the the space shuttle missions.

I think they had already finished making valves at the Mitcham site before I started though.
