prowla Posted Monday at 06:56 Posted Monday at 06:56 Some of the work they do on the TV antiques restoration shows can leave the repairs invisible. Quote
JohnH89 Posted Monday at 07:09 Posted Monday at 07:09 A second recommendation for the Nova system from @andrepassini from me . Have used it in the past on a P bass conversion and it is a masterpiece of engineering . Quote

Is there some kind of reference point or link for this or do I need to start watching daytime TV during work hours and hope for the best? 😂 1 Quote

It was much improved by the addition of thrust bearings, but the end of the tuners are now a good 90mm from the rough scale line. 21 hours ago, prowla said: I had one of those on a bass and the threads gave up. The adjusters are stock bolts with a knurled knob fitted on the end (which the hex nut grub screw holds in place), but the bolts are way too hard for the soft metal claws. I bought a replacement unit, but it had faults too. I was able to cobble together one unit from the two. However, the end of the assembly has a step which grinds and snags against the adjuster knobs. I tried adding the washer/bearing spacers but then the claws were too short for the string ball ends to reach. So overall the Overlord unit is the worst piece of guitar kit I have ever bought. The embossed legend is enough to put most folk off anyway. It's a cheap and nasty Steiny rip-off. That's going by the number of users that I have read criticising it. Quote

I think BBC's "The Repair Shop" do a lot of that sort of thing. 1 Quote

EDIT - I would be interested to know how easy those little wheels would be to turn once the strings get up to tension... I have one of the Jamstik guitars I mentioned above, and there's a small hex key like a little starting handle (I'm sure most BCers are old enough to remember when cars had starting handles) which can be used to turn the little wheels. It's attached to the bridge magnetically and tucked in neatly so you don't have to worry about losing it or forgetting it. Quote
Gank Bass Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago The damage is now fully repaired on the body, but looking for your opinions I have asked for a partial refund to cover the additional materials, this would be say £20 for glue, brush and a new clamp Given that the bass was sold as damaged, but all descriptions and photos focussed around the headstock - do I have a leg to stand on here? Genuinely curious! Fwiw I have been selling on eBay for over 20 years and have always tried to be protective of my feedback rating even if that means the occasional golden handshake Quote

It's a matter of how much of your time you want to spend pursuing it. If he doesn't respond favourably then at least you've tried. It's probably not worth twenty knicker to make a bigger thing out of it. Depends on how hungry the kids are, I suppose. One thing is certain. You can't give it back for a refund. It was your choice to go ahead with the project having asked for advice about it here. I don't think I'd waste time other than to mark the seller's card in some fashion. That way you know to be cautious if he crops up again with something you like. Quote

I am still going ahead with the project 👍 1 Quote
