ash Posted September 6 Posted September 6 (edited) EBMM Musicman StingRay Special 2019 USA Lovely example in black and roasted maple. It has a black chrome control plate and knobs. Not sure if this is as original but this is what it came with when I bought it. It comes with EBMM case, tools, leaflets, inspection tags, etc. It plays beautifully and sounds as you would expect, classic StingRay punch and clarity with lots of tonal variations thanks to the three band EQ. As it is the Special model the hardware is updated and designed to reduce weight. The bass is nice and light at 3.9kgs. The lightest US StingRay I’ve played. I love this bass but quickly realised that the wider body is uncomfortable for me to play and so I’m looking to trade it for an EBMM Sterling (US version) preferably with a maple board or possibly a trade plus cash my way for a Sandberg California II VS4. No heavy weights please. Other interesting trade would be for a Shuker JJ Burnel or Shuker P Bass. I’m not interested in any other trades but would also welcome a straight sale. Great chance to buy a lightweight US made StingRay. UK only. Pickup preferred or I can post at buyer’s cost. Thanks. Edited October 5 by ash Sold 12

dub_junkie Posted September 6 Posted September 6 Lovely Special. I'm sure lighter ones are out there but I had three Classic Sabres and the lightest was 10lb 😐

It would be pointless me getting anything heavy. I’ll amend the trades. Thanks

It was originally under 8lbs, but would of got lighter, arguably acoustically more resonant, due to an Ash Bora Beetle infestation 😂…long story short was the new body was over 9lbs and therefore I sold it. Could of been in the 6lbs by now 😂😂…someone out there is missing out making Paulownia Stingray bodies!
AustinLesPaulster Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Have you considered an EBMM short-scale? I'm a guitar player who occasionally plays the bass and with my bad back I had to park my Jazz Bass and favor of an EBMM Sterling short scale. I'm also on the shorter side so it's easier to play and definitely much lighter. Sounds awesome too.
martthebass Posted September 7 Posted September 7 The EBMM Sterling’s aren’t always lightweight, I’ve had 3 and all were above 9lb despite the smaller body.

Yes I have owned extremes one at nearly 5kgs one at under 3.5. I regret getting rid of my red Sterling last year when I went in for surgery. Sold to buy a EBMM short scale I later moved on - to you perhaps? 1

Hope you find a nice Sterling, still probably my favourite EBMM….if I could find a nice lightweight one in Starry Night I’d be in hog heaven. 1
Aero71 Posted September 8 Posted September 8 (edited) Lovely bass! Was the control plate replaced? I thought control plate and bridge (and tuners) should have the same "colour"? Edited September 8 by Aero71
ash Posted September 8 Author Posted September 8 I’m not sure it looks stock to me. I know that there were a few hardware options open. The control plate is apparently a different size from the standard StingRay so not an easy replacement part to source.
walshy Posted September 18 Posted September 18 Beautiful that buddy, got nothing you’re after trade wise I’m afraid 1

dub_junkie Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Hi John, your Sabre sounds like a keeper! I had a 1990 Sabre which was 9lbs. The 2013-2016 Classic reissues were from my own experience as well as what I've heard from other owners, mostly on the heavier side of things. Keir

Keir As soon as I saw it advertised online I queried the weight (too much experience of purported sub 9lb Musicman basses... that aren't). When they put it on the scales and gave me a money back guarantee that it was that weight, I snapped it up.
