More stock coming towards end of Sept I think….something like that.

@Al Krow Mainly I was using various combinations of octavers, envelope filters, chorus, distortions etc. I’ve had various multiFX in the past too but I was using those for very different purposes. With careful tweaking I could muster a decent synth bass sound for a gig on separates, but that would tie up 2/3 pedals just for one sound so the ability to have a bunch of giggable meat and potatoes synth sounds ready to go is brilliant.

Not tried the Future Impact yet? It does these sounds with ease. Eg: https://m.soundcloud.com/peter-kenney-750235819/qm-thriller-8

@QuatschmacherI’ve never managed to have a go on the Future Impact. Not sure I’ve ever seen one in the flesh in fact. They’ve clearly got a lot going on under the hood in terms of synth architecture. Not mad keen on bass gear that may/may not need an editor though. If one does crop up on my travels I’ll be sure to have a play though; I’m intrigued as to how it responds under the fingers.

It tracks brilliantly. The latest version (V4) has the best tracking by far. You can do loads with just the pedal itself, many users never touch the editor.

I’m pushing to revise the factory sound set to include a bunch of these classic patches in the first slots. Many of them are already available amongst the free patches I and others have shared.

I’ve also fleshed out UI ideas for stuff that will allow improved patch management directly on the pedal.

If you’re anywhere near Sheffield, you could try mine.

Thanks Peter that’s very kind of you to offer. I’m based in London but I am playing up in Sheffield next month 😉

I do get down to London from time to time but not in the near future. You’re welcome to try it next month when you’re up here.

I'm in that London. You're welcome to try mine, but I have the v3.

Ideally I'd like to try this out before buying.  I hope they are not just for sale online. Anyone near Louth, Lincolnshire with one? ;) I'd be prepared to travel to a guitar shop, if not too far,  that has one.

Just discovered Thomann's bass pedal best seller list (211 pedals listed)...due to the #01 on the list!

The rest of the bass pedal synth rankings on that list also made for interesting reading:

#72 SA C4

#61 EHX Bass microsynth

#51 Boss SY1

...

#01 MXR Bass Synth

Thomann are doing the MXR Bass Synth for £285 (inc. P&P) which is the best price I've found on line.

I've had a few synth pedals over the years including the original Deep Impact. The Dunlop is the best digital synth I've personally used but it's not making me sell my collection of analog noise makers.

That first preset is incredible.

I re-listened to the SY1 a few weeks ago. Jeezo that’s a bad sounding pedal 😅 (IMO).

Agreed it doesn't do traditional synth well!

But some of its fx are fab and very useful live e.g. trumpet stabs and arpeggiator or others to fill out the sound, and my crew, who just have one guitar and no keys, seem to really like it on the few songs it gets used for. It never suffered from the glitchiness which plagued several other models.

Its big brother the SY200 allows for presets which also really helps, live.

All in all, I'm not surprised it's still the second best seller after the MXR. People vote with their wallets.

Too early to tell on the MXR - I mean it will be the best seller at the moment as it has just been released so everyone will rush out and get it. See how it is selling when it has been out as long as the SY has been out.

I just realised yesterday that Darryl Anders of MXR has been a member of my FI Facebook group for 3 years. Now I know where he got all the good ideas from. 😂

I do really like the FI, but there must be some reason (other than I'm very fickle!) that I think I've bought/sold the v3 twice and the v4 once.

It's difficult to put my finger on exactly what, but for me there is just something about it that ends up frustrating me and thinking 'time to get back to playing'!

The octave jump tracking warble thing annoyed me with v3  (I think it's sorted with v4), and v4 I dunno but it took me many hours trying to connect it to my Laptop and in the end I gave up. That was almost certainly an issue with my Laptop, but I haven't had that issue with any other pedals or interfaces (other than the NUX MLD Preamp) so in a way it is an issue with the FI - It'd be like not being able to start a car and the manufacturer saying 'ah yes, but did you open the passenger door first - because it won't work if you do that, and did you remember to put your seatbelt on before putting the key in - because it won't start otherwise'.

I think that hands-on, low-fuss elements are what is making the MXR so popular particularly for live use.
