A strong dislike of new strings!

I hate changing my strings and have consequently had the same ones on both my basses for about two years. I dislike the zingy bright sound new strings give and am wondering if I should just go to flatwounds? Any advice?

Buy some Rotosound RS66, they will be bright for a few days and will have the same tone for at least a decade afterwards.

Try Elixirs, due to the coating brand new their rounds sound like other brands do after a couple of weeks use, and they stay like that for about a year.

Love this... I don't exactly hate changing my strings but can seldom be arsed (or want to spend the money) to - I think two of mine have eight year old strings on at the moment, although I did put d'addario NYXL's for this reason last time I did change them...

I regrettably have an aversion to the feel of old strings, to me they don't have that responsiveness against the fingers. I'm aware this is a bit OCD as I don't actually mind the duller tone. 

 

The frequency of little parcels of bass strings arriving through the post has become a "talking point" with my other half!

I like DR Sunbeams because they seem to lose the initial zing quickly and then stay in that 'ideal place' for a long time. I like flats, various types, but none feel like a substitute for older rounds, they just do their own thing. Having said that, Ernie Ball Cobalt flats are probably the most round-like flatwound string I've tried.
