Absolutely agree!

In terms of this one, I don’t know why you wouldn’t buy a genuine late 70s Stingray?

I have one and it’s a beast.

Yep - always wanted one, but slab bodies exacerbate my nerve pain; so that’s a few quid saved 😂

I swapped half a car full of gear for it and not looked back. I think @Hellzero offered some advice and it’s been a trusty bass ever since.

Quite possibly. The reason they’re expensive is because of artificially imposed scarcity and that appeals to people. I can own this and you can’t, etc.

The purpose of owning this, in most cases, isn’t intrinsic it’s performative.

As I get older extreme displays of wealth and rich people’s playthings like this make me feel queezy.

I don't know. While cars, helicopters and venetian weddings are often used as displays of ostentatious wealth, I've never seen anyone doing 'look at me I've got a £20k bass'.

Dropping £1900 on my AVII felt very extravagant, but the fact I probably would only get one opportunity to do so was part of my motivation. Alongside knowing a genuine early 60s P is out of my reach.

I still feel a bit embarrassed to reveal what it is when asked by someone aware of what it would have cost. Of course 99% of people just see a nice instrument.

I have. I’ve been shown collections of guitars that blew my mind. One guy I met had 15 Martin guitars. Madness.

I understand the feeling. I felt I was being knobish when I took my Darkray to a jamnight on Tuesday. I’ve sold all the cheap stuff over the last few months as swimbo was complaining about house space…

Man that’s the definition of being a bit bonkers.

Agree, it’s a one trick pony. Good trick admittedly but still just a single trick

I have two and think they sound very similar!

You simply don’t have enough of them to spot the differences. Rookie mistake 🙄

If I were buying the one he wanted the least out of 40, I’d definitely want to try it first😀
