Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted February 17 Share Posted February 17 Rather than swapping strings when you no longer want the brighter clank of rounds, you should use the eq on your amp to roll off some upper mids and treble to get a more flatwound sounding tone — that is what it's there for. I suspect that most people only take the strings off a guitar or bass when they are going to fit a brand new set. If you really need to clean the fingerboard and the strings don't need replacing you can just loosen the strings off a bit.
