I’m a longtime admirer of Andrew’s playing. Here, he’s taking Chaka Khan’s two hits to another level completely.

I guess he’s able to do this because:

a) he has total mastery of his instrument and tremendous chops.

and

b) he’s so familiar and at ease with the harmony in the two songs.

I have to learn these two songs for a new band I’m playing for. I play a 6 string bass, I’m definitely watching these for inspiration.

He detunes his bass by a tone by the way.

I have a transcription of these two tunes from a Chaka Khan concert.

The Bass phrasing with the vocal at 04:34...terrific stuff!

:D

Thanks for posting.

He's a fantastic player. I bought the AG1000 signature amp because I do love his sound.

I have to say though - his solo stuff is a bit pants compared to the legendary tunes like CK's one in the vid. I was a bit disappointed in his solo album. Fine playing - just in desperate need of a tune.

I'm saving up for an AG1000.

It's a cracking amp. I'm very pleased with it.

The dynamic range is massive. Really responsive. As I swap a lot between fingers, slap, and pick I always use a compressor just to sort that out a bit. Otherwise that little slap lick in the middle of a fingerstyle tune has a habit of waking the dead.

I've been eyeing up an MTD Andrew Gauche for a while now.....it'd mean I could instantly play as well as him wouldnt it?!

It sounded great except on the really low notes on the B string, and I'm listening through decent headphones so it shouldn't be an issue.
