Finding A Unicorn...

Years ago I foolishly sold my Warwick Alien 6 to @therealting and regretted it fairly swiftly. I've been on the hunt more or less ever since for another one, and have failed to find one for years...

...Until last week! One popped up within Richtone Music's second hand listings on Reverb.

I called them up, agreed a price and paid a deposit. Today being payday saw me pay the rest off, so it should be getting sent out today! With some extreme luck I may even see it tomorrow...

Never seen one for sale since I bought the one I sold, so I'm pretty chuffed to finally have one on the way!

Yup, a Rockbass (though I don't think German ones have tailpieces?) but a lot of bass for the money.  Nice one!

They do :)

Rather than bridge pins, it uses a normal Warwick tailpiece.

When you said it, I had visions of you saying it had a regular Warwick 3D bridge 😅 that makes much more sense.

It is indeed the Rockbass version. However, the RB Alien 6 is in a bit of a different category to the 4 and 5 string versions as the preamp and pickup combination in the RB 6 is exactly the same as the non-RB version, which is why the price point between the 4 and 5 vs the 6 is such a leap. The non-RB versions are still made in China, by the same people, so in reality apart from being slightly aesthetically different, they are almost the same!

It did indeed arrive! Fairly amazed considering I paid the last but off less than 24 hours ago. Credit to Richtone Music and DPD!

Looks to be in excellent condition and actually set up very well for once! A tiny bit of fret buzz on the D string at the 10th fret but I'm fairly confident I can get rid of that in short order.

All in, happy bunny!

That'll be the one with the black painted back and sides and without the abalone rosette. My one is the 'Deluxe' version... but still, a rare thing. Hans P Wilfer mentioned in an email exchange we had a couple of years ago that they'd made circa 200 RB Alien 6 basses, with around a third being the Deluxe ones.
