Lozz196 Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Had a great rehearsal with the classic rock band this evening. Keyboard player has just got himself a new keyboard and it’s really added to the sound. Went through the below and all went well. 5 Quote

Is gates of babylon a cover of the Rainbow song? Quote

You've missed out my fav DP song "Burn" The live version is a song i just loved playing in the "Friends of DP" tribute band. Have to admit Stargazer was also another fav of mine. I'd be very chuffed if i had that set list in front of me. Dave 1 Quote

Pretty good song tho. I've never heard of Volbeat but this is pretty good. Catchy song. Like a modern Classic Rock song to those of a certain generation. 😂 Dave 1 Quote

DGBass Posted Tuesday at 18:10 Posted Tuesday at 18:10 My first rehearsal last night of the year 2026. I missed January's rehearsals for various reasons. Three new tunes added, and that all went reasonably well. Feeling a little rusty after the new year break when the last I gigged was late December. The rehearsal was also an opportunity to try out a new sound for me. Usually it's a big thumpy scooped P-Bass sound I go for which works well for blues numbers. However I've been playing my Sadowsky quite a bit lately after getting the hang of an active bass again. It has a mid-forward tone being a single Musicman type pickup which is quite near the bridge, and reminiscent of the Stingray I used to play, only more mid focused than the Ray ever was. I've also returned to round wounds after nearly two decades playing flats. A recommendation to try stainless steel Elixirs has worked out well. They are quite smooth to the feel and quite dynamic sounding. The rest of the band seemed fine with the hike in low mids, a slight cut in the lows, and a smidge of zing at the top end. Curiously, I can hear what I'm doing much better now with this new sound and although it's quite cutting on its own, it sits well in the mix when the whole band are playing. Gig on Sunday so will see how the new sound goes down live. 3 Quote
SteveXFR Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Excellent session last night with my stoner metal band. I made a switch from my Spector to my 80's Yamaha BB1100S and it was the right choice. Really fun and productive session and we're definitely getting closer to being gig ready. Me and the drummer are starting to understand each others playing better. He at least knows a look of panic from me means "slow down ya bastard!" 1 Quote
MacDaddy Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago The drummer forgot his cymbals 😖 Including hi-hats. We were in one of Pirates rehearsal studios, and they didn't have anything to lend or rent. So interesting rehearsal. Drummer put a tambourine on the floor tom, and tbf it wasn't too bad. 4 1 Quote

Interestingly I've seen that as a major issue with Pirate we rehears at earlsfield ... its a great space until ..... anything breaks , or something is forgotten or you need a spare . They dont have anyone to ask or to loan out at all I understand staffing costs and the 24 hour nature of the place but a vending machine that sold Jack cables, XLR / power cables and picks would go such a long way. We have these at the office for self serve so they definatly exist .. Instead you sit on hold on the phone and they cant help you ... The suggestion to knock on some doors and ask if anyone wasn't using all of theirs didn't amount to much ... who answers the door mid Solo. 🙂 Edited 1 hour ago by synthaside Quote
Si600 Posted 7 minutes ago Posted 7 minutes ago No drummer last night, he cried off with a fever, the lightweight! So we tried Nice and Sleazy for something easy to do. We can mostly get through it in one pass, but the keyboardist hasn't learnt the solo yet, though she's singing it as well so we can forgive her. I need to work on my timing for "Oh shit, there goes the charabang", I miss the cue so we have to go around again. It doesn't matter, but feels awkward. Quote
