Stub Mandrel Posted January 8 Posted January 8 5-8 in Barry (actually sneaked out 15 minutes early) with Fractured Persona then drive to Newport and 8:30-11 with Bluesfire. Back via McDs for a MacPlant and home after 12. Remind me... I do this for pleasure, right? 3 Quote
Franticsmurf Posted January 8 Posted January 8 A mere 6.30- 10, and a 10 minute drive home with no excuse for a food stop on the way for me last night. I was rehearsing with 'The Bartenders' - a scratch band playing on the 17th. They're guys I've depped with before but the music is mostly stuff I don't listen to regularly so I'm still picking up the little details. After a few years of relaxed social gathering style rehearsals with the Hulla, these sessions are more focussed, harder work and they leave me feeling tired. But I also feel a great sense of achievement and as I have mentioned in the past, it's revitalised my playing and my self confidence. It mostly went well apart from my faux pas in getting the key of one of the songs completely wrong. I even managed some decent backing vocals. 6 Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted Wednesday at 21:45 Posted Wednesday at 21:45 Two good ones this week. Refreshing our memories with Fortunate Sons on monday. Started finalising our full theatrical performance for Fractured Persona tonight - we have the 'script' and setlist, going through song by song and recording definitive live versions. About 40% sorted tonight, just a couple more off the original album we need to brush up on. And look how our rehearsal room treats us: 5 Quote

MichaelDean Posted yesterday at 08:43 Posted yesterday at 08:43 It was a good practice last night. One guitarist was trying out a new amp (a Laney Ironheart IRT-SLS) which sounded and will be plenty loud enough. The other was testing a new practice rig but managed to forget the power supply for his tiny pedalboard amp, so he was straight into the PA from a GP-5 but that worked alright. I was also testing out my Spector NS Icon with the right(ish) strings on, sounds great to my ear for what we do. We managed to get a new song ready except for lyrics, so that was also good! 3 Quote
Rosie C Posted yesterday at 10:10 Posted yesterday at 10:10 (edited) Our local Wassail & Mari Lwyd is next weekend and our Morris band will be playing throughout much of the festivities, including leading (with the choir) a public sing-along in the early evening - Farmer's Boy, Gluouscetershire Wassail, Cwm Rhondda, Calon Lan, Sweet Caroline, Delilah, Sosban Fach, etc. We had our first practice with the choir last night - about 40 of them! With pouring rain and an upstairs rehearsal room, I kept things portable with my bass ukulele and Roland Street Cube EX. It went very well - the choir were well-practiced and it didn't take long to synch together. One more practice then the wassail. There's talk of there being a couple of thousand people there, though the band will mostly be on smaller amps. I'm torn between the practicality of bass uke + TE Elf, versus making the effort [of] taking my double bass and my Trace AH300. The photos and video will still be there after the back pain has subsided! Edited 22 hours ago by Rosie C 4 Quote

Originally three of the mugs featured glorified images of Trump, Musk and Tate. They disappeared, presumably upset someone who didn't realise it was satire... 1 Quote
steantval Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago (edited) A very fruitful rehearsal last night. One of the venues we play at is starting up a once a month Sunday Blues afternoon gig and asked if we would like to play, we are mainly a rock covers band, but have a sprinkling of ZZ Top, SRV etc, not enough songs to do a full blues set, but we are up for it. We decided on nine additional songs to learn for the blues gig to make up a full gigging set. White Room - Cream Roadhouse Blues - The Doors Red House - Jimi Hendrix Wishing Well - Free Oh Well - Slash Version Still Got The Blues - Gary Moore Walking by Myself - Gary Moore Honky Tonk Woman - Rolling Stones Oh Pretty Woman - Gary Moore We all did our homework and came together last night to work our way through them, we nailed the first eight and then came to Oh Pretty Woman, Martin our drummer counted us in and then it immediately crashed and burned big time, his drumming was way off, we asked him what he was playing and he said it was a Van Halen version, we all said that Van Halen had never recorded Oh Pretty Woman, Martin had mistakenly learnt the old Roy Orbison song Pretty Woman which Van Halen had done a heavier version of, we almost p*ssed ourselves with laughing so much. All in all, we managed to nail eight of the nine songs in a two hour rehearsal session, well pleased.👍 Edited 15 hours ago by steantval 2 2 Quote
jensenmann Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago No rehearsal this week, last week, the week before..... I´m hearing excuses all the time. Everything else is more important than rehearsing. It seems that it´s time to look for a new band. Motivation is at it´s lowest ever. Not that we had many gigs, like 5 or 6 a year. But nobody cares anymore. 🤮 rant over 1 4 Quote
Lozz196 Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Just got in from first rehearsal of the year, last being over a month ago. Was really good, a few hiccups here & there as none of us have really played any of the material in the downtime, but no big issues, especially as we’re not a gigging band. Was great to just be in the rehearsal room playing some great songs and having a laugh. Used my Sandberg Lionel into the studios Ampeg SVT450 & 810 and it sat very nicely in the mix, very pleased indeed. 2 Quote
Si600 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago We played Grip more or less correctly for the first time. We also had a go at Nice and Sleazy, we can get to the end of the verse before the wheels falll off. 1 1 Quote
JapanAxe Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Last night was one of those final rehearsals that was so bad, you just know it’s going to be great on the night! 2 3 Quote
