hi guys,

im gonna be getting a 410 to replace my orange 115 later next month.

thing is i was gonna go straight for the ampeg 410, but there's something spinning me out! they are all 4 ohms at which my amp throws out 1100w which is a bit more than the 600w it meant to take?

im also looking in gk, orange and hughes and kettner( this one looks good due to it taking 900w and it 8 ohm)

im gonna use my 115 as part ex they've offered me about £300 for it, and then im willing to add bout another £300 on top of that.

but when i look at the cabs rms they are all below what my amp puts out i know it wnt do this all the time ( ie put out 750w at 8 ohms ) but i dnt wanna get an under powered cab HELP!

im looking for an 8 ohm cab so i can add a second later

andy

I have two Aguilar GS410's. http://www.aguilaramp.com/products_cabinets_gs410.htm

They sell for £750 at the bass Gallery. http://www.thebassgallery.com/index2.html

They work perfectly, and I transport them around in their original boxes with holes cut to allow access to the handles. (I have also replaced both tweeters, as I have owned them for quite while, probably about two years.). I no longer use them as I have bought an Ampeg 8x10.

I'd be quite happy to let you have them both for £500 (that's £250 each!). I'm based in York.
I can send/post pictures if you're interested.

Thats not so unusual these days, I think the Epifani UL410 is about that too, for instance....

The Berg ae410 is rated at 800w, but I've heard of people on talkbass chucking over 1000 at them too...

The Epifani UL410 is rated at 1000 watts. I haven't a clue what that means in real terms but mine is very loud with just 300 watts going into it.

After a fair few gigs, the coils in the tweeters burnt out, so I replaced the diaphragm's. The rest of the tweeter is original.
They work perfectly now.

It means it can handle 1000W of power without the voice coils overheating. However like almost all 4x10"s it can't handle more than about 300W cleanly in the lows but as you've noticed it's already damned loud by that point!
my 2 cents... Eden410XLT hard to beat sensitivity wise... very fine sound. Forget that made-in-vietnam-cheapo-sh*t-ampg-crap. Doesn´t even come close to eden, epifani, schroeder, bergantino, ea....
beg your pardon sir! thats a generalistic statement!

my Vietnam built SVT 810 is a demon of a cab and... in my 30+ years of playing have finally found the perfect cab for me and by god have I tried enough 'cheapo' rubbish and boutique alike!

in repsonse to eden, epifani, shroeder, bergantino etc... turn on the tv, to any music channel - live stuff preferably - and check the amount of svt 810 being used by bassists, infact, just visit the ampeg site to see the amount of named bassists using their stuff!

one more thing...an EA nm410 neo when new £1799 S/H £350 Wow! aint that worth a mention!

most gear is over priced and names just become a snobbery issue - I truly like eminence made speakers, thats where I started next was the right box for me!

your ears are your ambassadors as with horses for courses!

While I'm not putting down your choice, the reason many rock and indie bass players on TV, on tour and at festivals are using Ampeg SVT's and 8x10's is because that is what has been supplied by the hire company and the promoter, and unless you are topping the bill you rarely get to choose what you play through. If you are touring the promoter supplies the "humpers", but if you have to carry the gear yourself different criteria usually apply. Also Eden is almost always the choice of visiting black American bassists.
