It's a fair point & well made - but imagine that with checker binding & full width sparkly inlays... :)

And I'll raise you a Kasuga Rickenbugger:

I love the look of bound basses, my Ibby RB920 is one. Unfortunately, abrasions on my R/H wrist & bruised ribs don't agree!

Just on this theme & probably totally pointless, it would be nice to see a photo of everyones Rickenfaker.

Jon, how many do you reckon are owned collectively on BC?

I had this one and sold to a fellow Basschatter for £200. i was sorry after, it played ok but sounded a bit too bright. but then again it did have new strings on. and i did'nt even need the money. :)

I'd have had that off you if I could have afforded it at the time - that's an Electra Corsair - that finish (with the dark stain on the back of the body) seems to be unique to the brand and appears on Electra copies from several manufacturers. This one's a Fujigen - rare enough in the UK, but pretty much unknown in this finish.

I really don't know how many we have collectively (I've got 3 - sort of!) but I think we should start a thread in Porn & see if we can find out... :)

Now here's a weird one ...

This appears to be a genuine Ricky maskerading as a fake. Quite apart from the icky Blue Boy description, apparently this is the Rickenbacker 500/1.

:)

It's always a reluctant sale. No one ever says "happy to be shifting this crappy instrument that was barfed from the sphincter of satan himself"

I think he's removed the "model number" - can't see it...

It's maybe just prejudice against the not-very articulate - but I can't accept that anybody who'd buy - and then attempt to sell - an instrument like a Rick could possibly know so little about it. So my reaction to an ad like that is "thieving pikey". Should've gone to Crack Converters.

Apropos of nothing, not that I'm a Rick expert, but isn't "Blue Boy" a sort of pale "baby blue" colour?

I was thinking the same thing Jon - both about the colour and the model number.

I thought all the name plates (except early ones) were originally printed with the model number? I don't think this is a fake, but maybe it's had a new TRC at some point. Or have I got that all wrong?

This is my old one, isn't it? I can't believe you sold it either. One hell of a bass, that.

Where do I put the pics of my Fakers, then?
How much are those Hondos worth realistically?
I don't want to go overboard haha
worth is determined by how desperately you want something :) I paid £350 for mine. It's not "worth" that much, when compared with other instruments of the price bracket, but as a bass that is as close as I'll get to an instrument I've wanted for over 10 years, it's worth every penny. Sounds right, feels right. Even has intact mutes....

That's the thing. I REALLY want a Rickenfaker but I don't want to go overboard. Really I wanna be looking at £350 at a stretch. Thing is I know the bidding will likely get crazy in the last day or two of the auction.
What's intensly annoying is I won't be at home to bid in the last day because I'm gigging in Hungary. Just typical of my luck really, nothing for a while then as soon as one pops up I'm not here to bid

Because I'm a purest, I'd be slightly averse to this one due to the lack of a bridge cover - i wouldn't want to have to shell out more to make it look right. Would be okay if the price stayed low. But that said, the case will push the price slightly, but then collection might put people off.... I was determined to win mine. I'd have been prepared to go over £400 which is really silly.....

Realistically, the covers are the first things to vanish on any Rick copy - or real one, for that matter! The basses themselves are so uncommon that I don't think it makes sense for that to be a genuine consideration when buying, tbh. There must be thousands of orphaned Rick & faker covers gathering dust in drawers & cupboards the world over...

Anyway - it's a Faker - but not as we know it:

Definitely not one you see every day!

It's probably just me, but I think R/H assymetric headstocks mounted on L/H basses look completely pants.

Would it really add that much to production costs to mirror the neck as well as the body?
