PainInTheBass Posted January 31 Posted January 31 (edited) I'd like to give a shout out to Chris at Hightide guitars in Rusper (West Sussex) https://hightideguitars.co.uk/ He carried out a fret dress and setup on my Squier Affinity PJ - which turned a cheap bass with fret work worse than English teeth, into something remarkable and now very much playable. Steff Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Hi hive, Would you recommend a luthier / builder around West London or generally west and northwest of London surroundings? I went through the list but not sure who is still active and who’s got a good reputation? Work I need done is more on the building side - I have a body that needs a light neck socket widening, also filing down and glueing a nice top on, then lacquering. Thanks in advance! Quote
basexperience Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Hey there - could you add Julian Mullen on the list? He’s based in Reading, Berkshire - he does excellent work, he fitted a GK-3 and OBP-3 into a 6 string I have, plus did lovely setup work including shims on a fretless of mine. http://julianmullenguitars.co.uk/Contact.htm Quote

W1_Pro Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Richard Meyrick in Abergavenny built a bass for me last year. He did a very good job and I would reccomend him without reservation. a friend of mine who lives near Cardiff has used Dave Dearnley in the past and been very happy, but I'm not sure if Dave is still working. Good luck! 1 Quote

simonlittle Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Very sorry to hear that @kuetsum. Martin and John have done all the work on my basses over the last twenty-odd years and have always done an amazing job. Quote

Martin and John have done all the work on my basses over the last twenty-odd years and have always done an amazing job. That's what I heard as well but the experience turned from bad to horrible.. From neglected to ridiculous.. When there was several back and forth without a proper solution, the luither drill a hole on the fret board without consent Then ensure you the neck/truss rod issue is fixed and promised its ok to turn it. I can feel it's bouncing back but Martin said it's ok to go on Wow and it popped :/.. 1st block of fretboard cracked and 2 frets heads up and say hi to me.. at the end I have to pay for the service to get my bass back with a destroyed neck.
