I'd like to give a shout out to Chris at Hightide guitars in Rusper (West Sussex)
https://hightideguitars.co.uk/

He carried out a fret dress and setup on my Squier Affinity PJ - which turned a cheap bass with fret work worse than English teeth, into something remarkable and now very much playable.

Hi hive,

Would you recommend a luthier / builder around West London or generally west and northwest of London surroundings? I went through the list but not sure who is still active and who’s got a good reputation?

Work I need done is more on the building side - I have a body that needs a light neck socket widening, also filing down and glueing a nice top on, then lacquering. Thanks in advance!

Can I have any recommendations for a luthier in South Wales who could do a neck reshape? I have a bb424 that i would like to trim some fat off of.

Thanks in Advance

I would highly recommend Angela Arnott at Guitarangel  just over the border in Coleford, Forest of Dean...

Richard Meyrick in Abergavenny built a bass for me last year. He did a very good job and I would reccomend him without reservation. a friend of mine who lives near Cardiff has used Dave Dearnley in the past and been very happy, but I'm not sure if Dave is still working. Good luck!

@kuetsumDefinitely worth speaking to Martin and John at The Bass Gallery in Camden. You could easily drive there from Milton Keynes in less than 90 mins

Thanks for the recommendation

....please no, they just f***ed my Alleva coppolo two years ago, two irresponsible business man...and I have tons of bad word can say..

Very sorry to hear that @kuetsum. Martin and John have done all the work on my basses over the last twenty-odd years and have always done an amazing job.

That's what I heard as well but the experience turned from bad to horrible..

From neglected to ridiculous..

:(

When there was several back and forth without a proper solution, the luither drill a hole on the fret board without consent

Then ensure you the neck/truss rod issue is fixed and promised its ok to turn it.

I can feel it's bouncing back but Martin said it's ok to go on

Wow and it popped :/.. 1st block of fretboard cracked and 2 frets heads up and say hi to me.. at the end I have to pay for the service to get my bass back with a destroyed neck.
