Warwick Vampyre Bass LTD 4 2003/013 MINT... Value??? HELP!

Hello all. My husband asked me to check into the current value on his Warwick Vampyre Bass, and I wasn't sure where to look. I couldn't seem to find a value via Google, and the guitars on e-bay are nothing like the one we currently own. He no longer plays and it seems such a waste to have such a beautiful piece just sitting in its case. Can anyone point me in the right direction? We'd like to sell it by weeks end, because we head back to the states then and we won't be back for some time. I didn't want to post it in the for sale section yet, because I haven't a clue what to put for pricing... Help?

Selling a bass that unique in a week might be a serious push unless you are willing to go VERY low on the price.

Warwick second hand prices have fallen through the floor in the last few years, a Streamer Stage II that would be £4000 + new now would be lucky to make £1000 on the second hand market and would likely take a while to sell.

The last Vampyre NT I can see that went on here was priced at £700 and it actually got traded not sold.
The last LTD model (which was actually serial number 001) was up for £1500 for quite some time and again went in a trade not a sale.

I would say if you need it gone this week you are going to need to look at under £700 to move it, if you want to sell it into a store you will probably be a bit under that even.

Sad that the Warwicks have lost so much value.

I googled it because I'd never seen one before, and stumbled on an ad right here on this forum from 2007 where one was offered for 1400 Pounds at first, but eventually dropped to 1100. It appears to have received quite some interest, but I can't tell from the thread if it actually sold at all.

Do you have any images of the bass? Where are you located? These are great instruments but as has been said. The Warwick market isn't the strongest right now and a Vampyre is a very very unique instrument so the market is very limited.

We are in the midlands.

I do have photos (I'm a photographer by trade) and I will post them once my husband is home with the laptop.

We hadn't even thought to sell it until I found it stored up in the family music room. My curiosity got the best of me and I asked my husband about it. He used to play, but has since grown out of it. Coming from a musical family, I knew it was a well made bass, just wasn't sure what he wanted to do with it. His suggestion was "find it a new home." I suppose our fear is taking it back to the states with us and it being damaged somehow in transit.

If we were to sell it, on a more long term basis, where would be a good place to do so? Here?

How is one connected with the proper people interested in such things?

Thanks for your input thus far!! I really appreciate it.

Depend how long you stay in the UK till you go back to the US. Placing the bass in here on the sale forum will attract interest and you probably get a better sale price then taking it to a store or cash generator type of shops.

Your other option is to stick it on ebay .......

Muy experience of buying and selling in this forum is always positive and alot of BC people can be trusted.

You could put it as a consignment sale with the Manchester Bass Lounge perhaps? www.manchesterbasslounge.com
Drew who runs the place is a very decent bloke.
There's also Bass Direct and The Bass Gallery down in London.
Fairly sure all of the above do consignment sales...

Just my advice, but I would stick her in the sales forum with a value of £1500 (deliberately on the higher end) or nearest offer, and see what you get. You could always put in the thread that you are after a quick sale which may encourage offers you are looking for, and if you change your mind and decide to go for the higher price then you can just edit your ad :) Plenty of pictures demonstrating condition etc, and it will be your husband who will need to join the forum with his own account and list the bass as you cannot list on behalf of anyone else unfortunately, even if it is your husband!

It's a specialist bass and to the right buyer £1500 would still be a very, very good price, given the £6k or so it would cost to buy one today. Warwick basses are fantastic and it is only the belief that the market is low for them that they go up for sale so cheap. Supply and demand, if people stopped selling them for silly prices the market will rise again! Needless to say, I sold (traded) my Warwick Dolphin (slightly cheaper than the Vampyre) for £1800 this year, a good bit more than you may expect with prices as they are, so demand for the newer/more specialist models is still high.

Alternatively, I'll buy it off you for £50 and a smile, can't say fairer than that ;)

Whatever you do, remove anything from your selling strategy that might make people wonder whether there's a scam happening. If you do go ahead and wish to sell right now, I'd say: give a physical object to a physical, reputable shop and ask them to sell for you and wire the money when it's sold.
However, several aspects are not working in your favour right now, and it might even be better to keep the bass until calmer times - when Warwick basses possibly also are valued higher.

Well that is exactly what you would expect, lovely bass and seems in great condition.

Get your husband to make an account and have him create a thread in the basses for sale forum with the highest value you realistically think you can get for it from the comments in this thread. I'm sure it will go, patience may be required is all :)
