nmcintyre2 Posted June 21, 2014 Share Posted June 21, 2014 Hello , I have posted on this forum before with regards to buying my first bass guitar but now that my exams are over I am finally going to purchase one. I have a budget of about £400-480 to buy a bass and an amp. I am looking at a squire classic vibe precision bass because of the great reviews I have heard about it along with the maple fretboard (preference I have on guitars so I assume it will be the same on bass). This would only leave me with a budget of about £150 for an amp which I know isn't great (however if I waited a couple of weeks I could possible get an extra £100 but I really want to start playing asap). I play various types of music such as the arctic monkeys , the smiths, the kinks , RHCP etc along with small bits of punk and blues but very little classic rock and no metal. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a different bass or give a quick review about their experience with the classic vibe and also recommend an amp. Lastly I was just wondering that if it would be safe to run the bass amp and bass through the boss me 70 multi effects that I already have for my guitars just to try and tinker with the sound a bit. There's an Ibanez RB850 for £225 which I'd be after myself if I had the budget and the space. SGC Nanyo with upgrades and a small amp for £200... HowieBass Posted June 22, 2014 Share Posted June 22, 2014 The Squier Classic Vibe Precision (60s version) has a rosewood fingerboard so I'm wondering if you mean the 50s style Classic Vibe which does have a maple board but it doesn't have the well-loved split P bass pickup... if you want a maple board with the traditional split P pickup then the Squier Vintage Modified P bass in amber/maple has both and it's a great bass (I've got one). The VM P bass in amber has a 'soft' maple body which is very similar to alder in weight/hardness (and Fender use a LOT of alder in their basses). spaners Posted June 22, 2014 Share Posted June 22, 2014 my advice is once you have your bass (and the squire CVs are very good as are all there better basses) take your new bass with you to try out amps. I have found that is the only way as not every amp suits every guitar n vice versa. I do however recommend you go and try the TC electronics BG250 2x8 (I have one and its great with my 62 re-issue and my pawn shop mustang) it is one of the few combows you can use with an extention cab, sounds great at home and is only £250 new, theres one in amps and cabs secondhand too Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
