Gibson SG Special 2014 Bass anyone?

Hi, I´m terribly GASed by this new model:

It´s VERY reasonably priced, but I am concerned about the weight of the bass. I´ve tried a few EB3s over the years and they have ranged from lightweight (a Tokai copy) to heavier than a WW (a 70s Gibson), to just right (a 72 Gibson).

I would gladly go for the real deal

if I had the £1850 Andy asks for it, as I prefer the maple neck, 4-way switch and more centered neck pickup, but it´s just out of my league.

So, has anyone tried this model? Any impressions?

I haven't tried one but if I remember they're going for not much more than a MIM Fender, and come with a hard case. Seems nuts to me. Bother forum member bought one of the non-reverse T-birds (also going for silly money) and reported a few QC issues that might be being aware of before buying.

I have a chocolate satin one, great bass & very light indeed,Fenders can only dream about the punch these badies have.

That is what I wanted to read. If you could give me an exact measurement then my credit card will be ready to burn.

I bought one of the non-reverse Thunderbirds for silly money, and it's great. Just thought I'd mention it, for balance's sake.

Glad to hear there're some good ones out there too! For a US built instrument with a hard case they're an absolute bargain.

Well in Thomann you can see that the back of the body and neck is finished in plain black, and satin finish is way cheaper than high gloss in nitro. Also I guess we're a bit used to Fender's rip offs, such as 700€ for an extremely basic, 60 year old assembly line design manufactured in Mexico.

I had an SG Spl. that I returned, because the frets were way to rough, and high. Other than that, it did play well. I sold a Fender Precision I really wasn't playing, and purchased an SG Std. Walnut. Same size, sound, and playability. The frets are right on though on this SG Std. They may not all be like this one.
