St. Vincent & Kasabian - JH

I must admit I've been quite disappointed with Jools recently, not so much the actual show, just the bands. None of them have really made me want to go and listen to them.

This past week, I wanted to catch up with what Kasabian are doing. I was impressed, and I'm glad they have a another new sound for this latest album. I've always liked how the instruments stick to their parts and they don't have a dominant guitarist. It's actually more like dominant bass!

St. Vincent were brilliant. Quite odd, but brilliantly catchy at the same time. If you get chance, check it out. It's good to hear new music that inspires me to keep writing.

'Birth In Reverse' is the really catchy track.

It's not often that absolutely nothing grabs me in an entire 'later' but they managed it this week sadly, fast forwarded through pretty much every act. Not been much in previous shows in this series either but one or two performers I've enjoyed. It's that sort of show which is why I haven't seen it 'live' for years, always record it.

Yeah I enjoyed St Vincent. Kasabian a bit less so.

Didn't quite get the rolling down the stairs thing at the end though?

I think its another part of the the whole 'act'. She is definitely a little off the wall, but I quite like that.

Nice Musicman Albert Lee HH guitar as well.

St Vincent, brilliant - not seen her/them before, loved it. The Tuesday night live version of Digital Witness was better than the Friday night version as well. Delightfully barmy. And the best synth bass I've heard in ages.

Ffwd through Kasabian. What about the new Brian Eno thing? Not quite what I expected.

Just realised St. Vincent are playing the amazing Sage venue in Newcastle...definitely going to try and get tickets ASAP!

Yep, I'm in for the Roundhouse gig as well.

I listened to the StV/David Byrne album when it came out and it didn't do anything for me. Gave it another listen last week, still nothing. the new StV album just keeps getting better though. Odd, given I'm a huge Talking Heads fan. Curiously, the same happened with the recent-ish David Byrne/Brian Eno album.

This is my favourite track off St Vincent's latest album; I really like her guitar playing/effects

She is definitely not a conventional guitarist, and I like that!

Really enjoyed the Eno/Hyde tracks. To my mind shades of "Here Come The Warm Jets" mixed with Freur. For me, Eno is always more interesting when he's actually composing and playing rather than just "producing".

What's the thing he's playing with his right hand? The Electro-boob.
