what type of autism does the fella have Duarte?
if you were to put him into a category I suppose he would be 'Classic Autism' - but when I started working with him about a year ago I was told he had "Severe autism, learning disabilities and other challenging behaviours". He can't speak, but can understand what is being said to him to an extent, whether he chooses to acknowledge what you say is another story! I firmly believe that he is a genius in his own right. He uses his little book (which is there in the picture) to point at a picture of something that he wants (usually a jigsaw puzzle, pancakes or 'the shop') and we can communicate by using hand gestures such as high fives or waving.

I gave him my first ever bass, an encore P bass, and he loves it! ...however he just puts it in his mouth...we'll get there though!

I was sort of thinking the same thing.
I'm only 6'2"ish, but it looks tiny...

edit: Even more worryingly, it seems to have changed colour. its in my hands right now, and is certainly much more Green than that photo shows...

Duarte - THANK YOU

Without people like yourself, people with this disorder would remain in their own little cocoons

My 6 year old son is severely Autistic with very little communication (A lot of screeching and screaming though),but with the help of his teachers and specialists,he does have an active interaction with some people now.I couldn't work with these people,I have to live with one as he is mine (And I do love him dearly),but it takes a special kind of someone to actually chose to work with them, and for that, thank you :)

Thanks for the kind words! I love this job and to be honest can't really see myself doing anything else. We have such a good time...except we had a slight mishap today where the poor guy kept hitting himself in the head and biting his wrists, as soon as we got some cream on it he was smiling again, fantastic. If you need any advice just PM me as I have some experience, but more importantly I know some incredible people who will always be happy to help.

10 out of 10.

We headline there once a year and occasionaly support a named artist, The Blockheads usually. It is our Wembley Stadium. Most weeks we are scrunched up in the corner of a pub. It's all good times though!!!
