One of the basses on the possible list to bring in is a Spector Euro LX TW with the Single / Dual coil switchable pickups. My thinking being that the switchable pickups will offer a very versatile bass. Can I ask for peoples first hand experiences of these and also compared to the 'classic' versions. If there are any these in the local vicinity of Chorley / Lancs (shops or BC'ers) that could have a go on I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. With that said, they’re exceptional. I had a Euro4 in black stain that was just stunning and sounded fabulous (it had EMG PJ’s and the Spector TonePump preamp). I sold it only because it was a very heavy bass. I regret selling it now. My Euro 4 had a maple neck and a solid maple body. I believe that newer models have maple tops over walnut/alder. This would reduce overall weight, assuming that this would be an issue for you as it was for me.[/size][/font] [font=Arial][size=3] My second Euro Spector, or Czechtor, is a Rebop5 which I still have. I replaced the stock EMG-HZ’s with the EMG 40-DC’s, which is what Spector was using on some USA models at the time. Musicman20 Posted May 18, 2013 Share Posted May 18, 2013 I've played one! Nice quality, big tone, coil taps, 2 band EQ, very versatile. It was priced at £2k!!! They agreed they could match the usual £1.5 ish k, but I still think that's quite a lot for a Euro. I'd see if Bass Direct can get you a bolt on USA model...they have one in I think. niceguyhomer Posted May 18, 2013 Share Posted May 18, 2013 I've owned a Euro 5, a Euro LX 5 and a Rebop 5. All superb basses and every one a joy to play. I hated the preamp in my LX5 so I replaced it with an ACG02 which was an improvement sonically but I couldn't adapt to using it on the hoof so I sold the bass. RhysP Posted May 18, 2013 Share Posted May 18, 2013 Can't help you with what the coil taps are like (not a fan of coil tapped pickups in general though, they never sound like a "proper" single coil to me) but I echo all the above sentiments about Spector Euro models. I have a Euro LX5 & it's a superb bass, easily the best five string I've played. I'm a big fan of the Tonepump circuit too, unlike many. I already had the Euro 5LX I'm GASing for a 4 string spector have not played a Euro LX TW with the Single / Dual coil switchable pickups - they seem a bit thin on the ground although I realise that they have not been around too long. Chris2112 Posted May 21, 2013 Share Posted May 21, 2013 I can remember when the Spector Euro basses first arrived at Sound Control Newcastle. What a revelation they were. I think SC had just taken on a contract as a Spector distributor as they had a few US models in at the same time. The Euro basses really were incredible. I remember they had a NT 4 string with a quilted maple top and EMG's. Being nuts about Victor Wooten at the time, the bass blew me away - it sounded so much like his #1 Fodera! And it was brand new at £1000! I actually ended up buying a 4 string Rebop DLX a couple of years later that was also superb. £549 brand new from Sound Control Preston! It was so good that I actually sold my Status Stealth bass as that wasn't getting used. That said, their pricing these days puts me off. One of those instruments that left an impression the first time I played it and two owners later I managed to snag it. Even now, 5 years later, with custom coil splits and a parametric eq it's an awesome instrument and my main bass...I sold three Ken Smiths and pocketed the change as a result.
