LED Stage light recommendations please

We're thinking of retiring our rattling and heavy stage lights for some of them new-fangled LED spots. We wouldn't have much use for a full blown DMX console controlled system, probably just 3 lighting poles with 4 spots on each.

I've seen some LED lights that are pretty weak and feeble and some that look pretty good.

What do you guys recommend; first for a tight budget and then something a little better for not too much more?

I got something from the bottom end of the market - KAM Party Bar, and just one of them. On small stages it is adequate. 2 would be better.

I wish I had bought either the KAM Parbar or Equinox versions - I've seen both in action and they are brighter and more robust. Teach me to be a cheapskate, I suppose. :)

Odd. When I searched from my desktop I only found a couple of hits, but searching via my iPhone I found several of the ones you allude to?

Well if anyone else wants to chip in, there may be some new stuff out that wasn't mentioned in previous threads :)

QTX SPSW all the way. The difference these have a great wide spread of light. Much better than most others. £89 each.

We have four of them that we got from here:

T-Bar that we bought for £15 on ebay .....

http://www.whybuynew.co.uk/stands/lighting-stands/heavy-duty-lighting-t-bar-for-speaker-lighting-stands-.htm

which we stuck on a speaker stand.

Sometimes we stick all four on there, sometimes just two with the other two point up with a sound to light mode on.

You can get all four of them to work in unison. If you have three poles with four on each you could get them all working together,

Have to be a big stage to use twelve of these though. They are very powerful.

We use Thomans Starville 4 LEDS. One set of 4 lights a small 5x5mtr area in a pub well enough. 2 would be better but we never really have enough room as it is, so anothe tripod..??
I find the illumination good enough.

We hire other stuff in if required. The tripods themselves are cheap and nasty...and the foor controller is ok... but the lights themselves are where the money is well spent, IMO.
The other components can easily and cheaply be replaced

I gave up using the search engine on this site ages ago, in favour of using "site:basschat.co.uk" in a google search.

LEDJ Q colours are really good for a stage wash and have in built program's so you don't have to use a controller. I would recommend some separate LED par cans (such as the LEDJ Slimline 229's) to provide some contrast to the wash if your budget will cover it.

Im with you, I have been using the Thomans Starville led par cans now for years and they have been great.
i use 4 per side with a behringer dmx controler as the starville dmx master 1 packed in.
lots of good reasons for getting them,
power saving .. if you use the old par bulbs 500w even 1000w each thats alot of power to use on the
usually limited sockets at a venue
the bulbs are almost wasted anyway unless you have something for the light to fall on so a fogger or a hazer
will help the lights make the show.
the great thing about the dmx controllers is you can program each song, worth spending a bit of time to get to
grips on
Just test/try on one song see what effect it has and befor you know it your hooked, and add other bits along the way
the dmx bars are very handy very quick to set up, all wiring power and sig is internal.
And a big plus is they are light,( excuse the pun  )
so hamster if keep your eyes out on ebay you can get some gooood used deals,
i went for these..

i know £204 x2 is alot for lights then fogger and poles, but as said keep your eye on ebay. i got a real good deal eg my controller as above for £35.

PS,,,, another great investment if using lights, to get the best out of them get a black back drop ! ! worth the effort.

I have to agree Pete. The engine that came with this version of the board sucks compared to the last one. We're currently saving up to buy the next raft of upgrades and pay our webdev to install them - and then hopefully 'search' will work properly again!

The cash I can do - but that's a shitload of buttons to press on a DMX controller!
