I could collect it tomorrow from Johnny in Hemel. I travel about a bit and can arrange to drop it with anyone else who's doing a gig in the South, South-east, London, Anglia area.

Any takers?

Yep, I'd like to confirm my desire for it on the 14th Dec in East London (I'm in Romford, Essex). I also get about a bit and so, unless someone needs it in the meantime, I'm sure we can arrange something to pick it up. (I could also use it on the 13th Dec)

I can either meet Grangur in Hemel or meet 4 Strings at say, South Mimms services on the M25?

PM me if you want to collect it.

Does anyone want the bass between now and the 13th Dec? If not I'll arrange to pick it up.

We've just had a reply for Guiness world records!?!

"Claim ID: 417828
Membership Number: 363751

Dear Mr James Ryan,

Thank you for sending us the details of your proposed record attempt for 'Most gigged/used BassGuitar'.

We are always delighted when we hear from people who want to break a record and were excited to read your application.

Unfortunately, after thoroughly reviewing your application with members of our research team, we are afraid to say that we're unable to accept your proposal as a Guinness World Records title.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay in getting back to you. Your claim has been thoroughly discussed throughout the team and with our external music specialist.

Whilst we fully appreciate this is not the decision you were hoping for, we trust that you will understand our position. However, if you have any further record proposals please do make another application, we would be delighted to hear from you again.

Although we are not currently able to accept your proposal for a new record, we will keep your details on file and will let you know if our decision changes in the near future.

Whilst we fully appreciate this is not the decision you were hoping for, we trust that you will understand our position. However, if you have any further record proposals please do make another application, we would be delighted to hear from you again.

Once again thank you for contacting Guinness World Records.

Kind regards

Anatole Baboukhian

What does that mean, though? Does that mean that they just don't think it's the kind of thing that people would like/care about in their book, or does it mean that there's something about the whole process that needs to be adjudicated by them to check the record's validity? I just don't understand what it means.

I think that's probably it. The record needs to be validated by an official GWR Adjudicator.
Which for obvious reasons would be a logistical nightmare.

Well that makes sense. I wish they had put that into their reply. I know when they do world record attempts on TV, they always have adjudicators to verify and make sure everything is above board.

most gigged/ used bass guitar is probably a bit vague to have definitive numbers thrown at it to validate it against another bass ,for instance Dave Peacock ( Chas and Dave) seems to have clocked up a few gigs with the same bass.

Maybe the record attempt title needs to reflect the nature of the record a bit closer .
I think to actually have a record attempt you would have to do it at something like the bass show and organise it with agreed rules so that the criteria for playing was agreed , then have all the visitors play it and pass it on , but all at one location and on the one day within a specific time period , and then it can be suitably adjudicated , every entrant to pay £2 to the charity etc or something along those lines .

That's not a bad idea for at LBGS2014

No takers? I will be in Nottingham next weekend if anyone wants to use the baton? 4Strings wants it within a couple of weeks though.
[/quote]

He does! Also the time he wants it is getting closer and so the likelihood of someone else taking it in the meantime is reducing so maybe he should just come and get it.

Last call for any takers before the 13th Dec!

It's doubtful but it manages to make its way upto Glasgow by the 18th of December I'm playing a christmas gig on that date.

We could make it happen and bring her back to Scotland for a holiday. I've got a gig on the 20th which is the bands 30th anniversary & is likely to be our last, and may be my last gig - hope not though. I'll pm you.

If noone is ripping 4Strings arm off after 13th Dec I'll make arrangements for it to come back up & we'll try & get some Scottish action going . Someones bound to have a Hogmany gig.

Great, let's get it up there, especially for Hogmany! (I'll be ripping my own arm off for the 14th Dec! That's the main gig for it, the 13th will be a bonus if I have it)

Very nice to meet Jonnyboy, here's one taken by the present Mrs 4Strings as an option

The bass will hopefully be a-groovin in the next shot

Best of luck with the gig(s) Greg! Was lovely to meet you both - Hope you raise lots of money!
