They don't need to be anything super powerful, the ones we have at the min are small multi coloured LED lights that are sound sensitive. I've found these http://www.thomann.de/gb/stairville_led_par_56_alu_schwarz.htm but we got our last ones from here and having to use euro to british adapters is a bit of a pain. Have a quick search on eBay, I remember seeing a pack of 4 cans on a T-bar with a stand for £99. Don't suppose you can go much wrong? Count Bassy Posted November 15, 2012 Share Posted November 15, 2012 Be careful with the specs. All par cans of the same physical dimension (even with the same LED count) are not equal. Even the power consumption is not necessarily a good indicator since the efficiency varies widely (but is probably better than most). You really need to compare the light output in terms of lumens, assuming that this is available and that the manufacturer hasn't lied. Also take account of the beam angle. Do you want floods or spots? For the same power a spot will give higher brightness, but over a smaller area obviously. At the very best current LEDs are 10 times the efficiency of a filament bulb,so a 16 watt LED unit like you mention will, at best, be like a 160 watt conventional bulb in total output, although that output will be more concentrated. Every band in the universe is just swathed in purple these days and it looks naff! Anyone know where I can get some White lights? Par cans or maybe some LED bars to hang behind the band. [/quote] I have no direct A/B comparison, as these are the only ones we have! But they are fine for everything I've used them for so far. [/quote] Thanks for that, but thinking about it a bit more I'm reckoning the controller and stand would be superfluous. I'm really only looking for something along similar lines to Bigjas, so I think a couple of the Thomann ones will do the job. Cheers Crez [/quote] ITYM DMX ? Pretty much all of the cheapo ones I've been looking at recently can do it (for some unspecified definition of white, I guess), using DIP switches. bertbass Posted November 21, 2012 Share Posted November 21, 2012 I've got a pair of these, http://www.nevadamusic.co.uk/lighting/stage/prolight-equinox-mega-bar-system, controlled by one of these, http://www.thomann.de/gb/botex_dc2448_light_operator.htm, and it's fantastic. Our lighting guy does a really great job manually controlling the desk but you can also use it automatically with all the presets and chases. Recommended. The lights also come with a footswitch controller so you don't actually need a DMX controller but it does make for a more versatile light show.
