[/color]"[/quote] This means that if you sell your bass for anything over 750 which i think is about the middle ground for a number of bass's you are going to be charged another £35 on top of the £40 you would normally pay. then there is your paypall fees, ebay having the nerve to just almost double it at will i feel is just GREED. SO..... what do you think this will do ????? I think it will push prices up again as sellers still want what there item is worth and the extra costs pushed on to the buyer with higher starting prices, is it worth it ??? the reason some people put their basses on ebay is the hope they get more for it than its worth, it does happen, you may as well take advantage of the likes of loot, gumtree, ETC. As a last resort to sell something that cant be sold anywhere else then i suppose its handy. BC's market place i have always found VERY handy and from now on i would rather gladly give them £10 ( or what ever) on the sale of my bass. Also thanks to BC for keeping this free. [/quote] No offence, but if you sold a bass in the £750 range and only donated a tenner that would be rather taking advantage of the "free" access to the for sale threads! Ebay does reach a larger audience than BassChat, so sometimes the costs might be worth it. Increasingly though, it seems that Ebay is for buyers rather than sellers. steve-bbb Posted June 15, 2012 Share Posted June 15, 2012 i got three extremley good buys on evilbay about 18 months ago - havent touched it since after getting bombarded with their sh1tty emails about 'no insertion fee' weekends i thought id put some low value stuff up - big mistake - no such thing as a free meal is there! absolutely no intentions whatsoever to sell anything on there and have grown so dismayed with it that it is now way down my list of places to look if im considering buying something - even rareities can usually be tracked down on specialist forums like statii etc etc Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I didn't think it could get much worse, but as you say, this is just greed on eBay's part, pure and simple. Add the fact that Paypal are a bunch of shameless, brass-necked festering horse cocks who can apparently freeze your assets on a whim, and it makes for an unattractive proposition. eBay/Paypal think they can do and say whatever they like because they are a monopoly. Gumtree is national and I live in Edinburgh but I ended up selling it to a dude down in Brighton. In a recession like this, there will be a lot of people wanting to sell stuff on ebay. In the five years leading up to then, I was a very active trader of vintage basses on eBay, I had a lot of joy, a lot of fun, and no significant grief. In the four-ish years since then, my use of eBay to sell things has fallen away to pretty much zero for all the reasons that people have mentioned above (and on other similar threads). Their loss, [s]Basscash's[/s] Basschat's gain. Going forward, I would not sell a bass on eBay under pretty much any circumstances. I'm no longer their target trader, so they no longer make themselves an attractive proposition to me. It's called "doing business". Can't say I'm losing much sleep over it.
