Hi!

[s]I'm selling my Rob Allen MB2.[/s]

SOLD!

Specs:

MB-2 4 string fretless bass

alder body (tort binding) with flamed walnut top (200$ upgrade)
maple neck / lined ebony fretboard with side dots
matching bound headstock (200$ upgrade)
Labella black tape wound strings

Current price from Rob is about 3300$ with these options plus shipping & import tax.

I would sell this bass with the bag it came in (a nice Protec Contego in black,
also very good condition) for 1500£ plus shipping.

The bass is in very nice condition, only a few minor scratches on the back and one tiny ding in the top.
Excellent condition.

I've added a tiny thumb rest (walnut) to the top with double sided tape, can be removed.

Here are some pics I got from Rob when the bass was finished:

I will take some pictures soon!

I'm located in germany, if you're interested I can get you a shipping quote.

Thanks!

the dark lines in this picture are NOT scratches, it's the wood:

If I didn't have a Takamine B10, I'd have bought this by now.

I also have a Takamine B10 and have just bought this! I will be A/Bing the two and keep which ever I prefer. Based on Youtube clips I think the Rob Allen will win sound-wise but lets see. Either way, a happy conundrum :)

I should have known. I look forward to the A/B result.

I just spent 15 mins with both this bass and my Takamine B10 and they are both fab! My thoughts are as follows:

- The Rob Allen only has one tone (it has a single volume knob) but its a lovely piezo-driven warm fretless sound and the bass seems ridiculously light. The neck is jazz-like in dimensions and is very fast and slick.

- By contrast, the Takamine has a broader range of tones (albeit from its hard-to-fathom preamp with 20 presets) and feels more like a double bass with its heavily radius'd ultra-chunky neck and bulk. Its not as fast as the Rob Allen and is harder physically to play. But then again the B10 has to be the best looking acoustic bass ever made.

- Neither sounds exactly like a double bass but they both come close enough to use them in place of a DB when the latter is impractical.

Hmmm, I may end up keeping both as I can see pros for each!!! And I'm certainly in no rush to make a choice :)
