It's not a large amount, but I'm guessing the bank will charge him for the exchange? Can he send it for free on Paypal so neither of us lose out? If they fund their PayPal account from a credit card there will still be a fee, Also remember that gift is supposed to be used to send money to people you know as a gift. Every time I've paid a Gift by Paypal, I've been told how much the fee is BEFORE I've been allowed to send it! It's straight from my Bank Account as well, so the 'Credit Card' argument doen't work. [/quote] Same here, always been charged for sending PayPal 'gifts', even when it comes straight from account, not aware of any method of using PayPal where at least one party isnt clobbered. [/quote] Even if the bank doesn't charge for the transfer, it will charge for the change of currency. The cheapest way of doing currency exchange/transfers is likely to be through a specialist broker such as HiFX, but the saving on one-off smallish amounts is unlikely to justify setting up the account TBH. [/quote] Don't hold your breath I'm not sure of the exact Paypal terminology but if [s]you[/s] I or someone paying me uses Personal Payment as Money Owed, (not Gift as mentioned), it seems to work out that neither party pays fees.
