i think if im understanding right with what im reading online, when you switch it on it kinda boosts the bass and makes it much more punchy?

http://www.ehx.com/products/steel-leather this is one ive found
the steel leather doesn't just boost the bass -in some ways it does the opposite

it acts like an expander, and processes the sound so the initial attack of the note is louder. as this initial attack is full of high frequencies it effectively boosting the top end for the start of the note.

Nice to see the tuner was working before its untimely demise, that drill seemed to be sounding a good solid A note :)
Just something where when i click it it makes it stand out alot more and alot more ballsy. Im rubbish with technical terms, sorry.
I know what you mean now. If you want a bit more 'umph' to your sound then it might be worth investing in something like a Sansamp Bass Driver or an EBS Microbass. The Microbass is good because it offers you two channels to select from so you can set the two differently. The downside is that the latter is fairly expensive, but both are great for recording purposes too and have dedicated D.I outs. I don't think a compressor is what you're after here.

Hmm, I'm not sure I'd recommend a Microbass for adding 'oomph' to be honest. It's a great pedal, don't get me wrong, and it can do it if necessary, but I think it can be done better and more cheaply elsewhere.

I can't really say anything for the Sansamp, no real experience with that.

Alternatively, you could use a pick to get more of a click,or you could pluck closer to the
bridge and favour the rear pickup (I don't know what bass you use),which will give you
a bit more midrange punch.

hartke vxl is your cheapest option for a pre-shape boost over a wide spectrum.

if it's pick-style you want to emulate but played with fingers, than the ehx steel-leather does that job nicely.

for added 'girth' another option is the aphex bass x-citer

all these pedals have been mentioned already, but all do different things.
