And this second one is also from Pierre Laporte. A custom 6-string acoustic. Based around the Thomastik-Infeld nylon strings, it has a cedar top, mostly a classical guitar, but lower ;-) Ebony fingerboard. RMC piezo.

Beautiful fretless neck and headstock which fit the acoustic body shape. It is not so often.

Thanks for sharing.

I must know more about this luthier !

Pierre Laporte. I have put a picture of the guy on this thread, and you'll need to call him to Montréal's phone number +1 514 521 9310. There is a bit of a waiting time, he has no assistant and has been doing everything by himself for the last 40 years... but because he is Montréal's top luthier, he is so busy with the A-listers there that he has no time for websites/build-diaries/anything... the great advantage for us is that he is relatively cheap for the quality. I have never tried a bass that I would have swapped for his...

I recently got me one of these (as a very light alternative to my now-sold Takamine B10)
[attachment=131339:ae1.jpg]

and I am now the owner of this lovely 1970/1 Precision (hope Gareth/walbassist doesn't mind me using his pic, its better than I could do!) which now has original pots and P-Retro removed

Annnd here are mine 2 fretless babies:

'84 Ibanez Roadstar II and a Malinek fiver. Believe it or not - they're both the same 34" scale ;)

After much shoulder and back pain and even more bumping the headstock agaist various stuff and other band members (plus difficulty finding a gigbag and impossibility to squeeze this mostrosity into my small car's boot) I promised myself my next fretless 5 will be headless.

I also keep telling myself my next fretless 4 will be a Wal but I keep hearing my wallet and my bank account laughing ironically...

My fretless basses.

Squier VM - The neck started its life fretted, on my other Squier VM.

Westone Thunder I - I modified the crap out of it over the years, I am the first and only owner.

De afwerking mk4-5fl - One of my DIY projects, it has a stainless steel fingerboard.

Here's my main squeeze... Used to be a mid 90s Fender USA P, but a Warmoth neck, Bartolini pickups and some re-wiring, it's a bit different now! Fingerboard is goncalo alves, but cannot for the life of me remember what the neck wood is...

Frets are for wimps! ;)

Wow!

Is that a J or P shape neck? Whichever it is, is the profile of it like an original? Or does it have square-ish shoulders like current Status models do?

Here is my latest acquisition, a GWB-35. I've been humming and hahing about one of these for some time. Went for it and bought this from Grangur (Richard). Lovely bass. Restrung it with TI Jazz Flats, set it up and tuned to E-C. I have never liked a low B string so that had to go.

I am used to 19mm string spacing but this has been very easy to adapt to at 16mm. Going to add my Roland synth pickup to it and having the high C should allow some interesting chordal stuff.

More fretless porn to come shortly.
