2004 Wal Mk II/II fretless *SOLD *

Yes I know .... no p*ss taking please. I had been searching for a while for a fretless Wal and it does not disappoint. Its extraordinarily playable, has a beautiful range of tones, and is in truly immaculate condition (difficult to tell from new). However I have had an expensive time recently with some rather large and unexpected bills (including medical ones for Mrs C that are unlikely to be covered by insurance) and a £2.5k bass that was really a luxury is the one that has to budge, given I will not sell my YOB Precision come hell or high water.

I only got this a month or two back from The Bass Gallery in Camden and its still as immaculate as when I got it. Specs are that its walnut faced (with a mahogany core), ebony necked (with side marker lines and dots but not full lines), has a Mk II body shape but a Mk III (downsized) head and Mk III neck joint (countersunk bolts, instead of old-fashioned neck plate) - thus its a Mk II/III hybrid. I have converted back my (considerably less valuable) '71 P/J to fretless so that can cover my fretless needs. Comes with Hiscox hard case. Made in June 2004.

Cost me £2,500 and I would like that back please as it seems an entirely fair price based on other Wal sales on BC plus the fact its absolutely immaculate. I know its not the time to be selling expensive basses but these don't come up often. Given my recent outgoings, no trade offers please. Can be collected from London or I will post at cost.

LOL, the only reason I'd be allowed to comment is that I'm still someway ahead of Clarky in term of my expensive basses in:out ratio :)

Stunning looker that bass though isn't it. I'd love to be able to justify having a Wal again

All the best with it Clarky...hope all is OK!
Thanks Nik, 73Jazz and lozbass ... and of course Beedster :)

Find out tomorrow if Mrs C needs surgery on her ski-damaged knee - unfortunately insurance policy excesses and exclusions (including all equipment such as wheelchairs, crutches, knee braces etc) mean her accident will have cost in excess of a grand which, together with other unbudgeted-for spends (extra DB amp when my last one failed, kids school trip to France etc) means this gorgeous bass has to go

Spent some time playing this last night and am wondering if, my recent overspending notwithstanding, I will later massively regret moving this on. Its so ridiculously playable! Hence I am withdrawing from sale for a few days to consider alternative plans of action and whether I should keep this bass regardless.

Right now matey, I am extremely loathe to sell this on. It really is so easy to play and so great sounding. My leaning is to keep it and to be more careful with spending in the next few months. Oh and to sell one of my kids into slavery

No, all they can do is play XBox and consume nachos. Still interested?

After falling back in love with my Fender '71 fretless (see Gear Porn post today http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=134182) and having recorded successfully with it this weekend, I am going to let my Wal fretless go. It's a truly wonderful instrument but the '71 is "more me" (being a Fender-head) and TBH, as mentioned earlier, I have overspent recently. So this lovely bass goes back up for sale at £2500. Its now wearing some brand new Status Hotwire half/ground-wound strings which suit it perfectly.

Here's a pic of the inside of the control plate (pinched from SFX83, hope thats OK) showing the June 2004 manufacture date and details, including (what appears to be) Pete Stevens' signature

I should also mention that its got a Jazz-type slim neck profile rather than the chunkier neck more commonly found on Wals - so if you are someone that likes a good handful of neck, this probably isn't for you
